Yes, Merry Christmas everyone!
I've not long come back from a walk around The Lake. It was drizzling enough initially for me to put my hood up, but then for the most part cleared. It's dark and were it not for a chilly wind, fairly mild. We will want to go for a walk after lunch as well, though looking at my weather apps, it might rain properly in the afternoon.

May I join in offering my own best wishes to fellow posters?
Here are some stunning pictures of temperature inversion effects in the Scottish highlands, sent in to the BBC. No, that is fog, not cotton wool!

We went for an early morning walk yesterday as the weather was very pleasant if chilly - snow on the hills, but none down at low level. We went to the place we call the Bluebell Woods. It was our first time there since Arwen. Incredible destruction of the trees with paths blocked all over. It was very tough trying to negotiate the fallen trunks and branches. Eventually we managed down to the more sheltered oak wood which was largely undamaged by the storm last month. Arwen really did some amount of damage to the trees in the area.
The weather this morning is merely dreich.

Grey, varying levels of precipitation, cold breeze. Little incentive to venture outside although I did manage about 30 mins of garden pottering, tidying up things which had been blown around, tucking away "gone-over" pots and moving into view ones which are worth looking at - Christmas rose generously living up to its name, assorted sedges, conifers and ivies, and a large tub of Skimmia decorative in bud and promising scented pleasure in a few weeks time. On the down side and as the rain was beginning to intrude I found that something(almost certainly a rat) has been attacking the various beets. Doubly annoying as I use the leaves more than the roots much of the time but of course with the root gone the tops die.

Still in line for 16 C tomorrow and Thursday, possibly even reaching 17 C in a few places, which would be close to the all-time December record. Our hottest weather normally comes in from the south or south-east; this warmth will be approaching from the south-west or south south-west, and is of subtropical maritime origin. Air approaching from the Continent is less mild in winter, even cold for the time of year, having crossed a large land mass which is usually colder from November to February than the UK, though I now see temperatures could well be in the 22-23 C range across the Bordeaux region of France.
Today's fresh to strong breeze takes the edge off relatively high temperatures, reaching 11 C across the south.
