In one respect not a big problem as it's an incentive to stay indoors, so perhaps I'll get my cards and various bits of decoration finished.
The postie was cheerful - it's not raining and he doesn't have to worry about ice, he's happy with grey.
    Postie, by 1139h?...

    ...you were lucky!

Our postie usually delivers at around 4pm.

Lovely morning here, frost on the ground, cold, but bright sunshine gradually clearing the ground mist - all despite the Met Office prediction of grey cloud and fog virtually all day.

Yesterday, travelling North over to Helmsley, the whole of Ryedale appeared like a pale grey lake, with occasional tree clad islands and the far shore formed by the Southern escarpment of the North York Moors - beautiful, and a lovely pink/crimson sunset coming home too.

I have fond childhood memories of the Clevedon Hills: Roseberry Topping ("a Jurassic limestone tit"), Sutton Bank ("Are you sure the Hillman will make it, Dad?") a pub lunch in Hutton-Le-Hole, and staying at the Black Swan in Helmsley's market square - "the Mooky Dook", with it's beautiful herringbone half-timbered half-frontage.

We are pretty lucky with the post generally, it usually gets here by midday, although there was a pretty bad phase for a couple of years shortly after I moved here in 2015 when it arrived, if at all, at the end of the day. I had a lot of paperwork to deal with in addition to the usual house-moving stuff and had to do a fair amount of chasing up of items sent 1st Class that took days to reach me and so couldn't be returned promptly.
I think that proximity to the sorting office helps with getting post here before midday - about 10 mins walk away.
Sounds like we should have had your forecast here!

Pretty much the same here, just a few degrees cooler - not cool enough, however, to justify putting on a jacket or coat for my walk (though doing press-ups beforehand helps).

The dire warnings of fog didn't materialise here which was a relief. Yes, it was foggy first thing but not very much and did lift (sort of) quite quickly. The greyness did thin and the sky got a little brighter, but not enough to see either colour or sun. It didn't rain though for which our choir was grateful as we were singing outside in the town centre late morning. Penetrating damp cold though, took me quite a long time to start feeling reasonably warm again once I got home. Thick murk started to close in suddenly at about 1pm, enough to shut off the further field boundaries at the back of my house, but now(2-30) seems to be lifting a bit and surfaces are noticeably drier. It'll be another murky night though, so I'm glad I don't have to go out.

It is our old adversary anticylonic gloom that I can't stand.....the day seems hardly to begin before it is gone...

I'll take a few degrees colder if only it be with blue skies above it ....best walking weather there is, (as long as you can make it far enough into the countryside...

Dreich and foggy all day here, as predicted by Met Office forecast.

Getting into the spirit of the season perhaps that's "as foretold"?
"Fog changing to overcast by lunchtime" is the, doubtless accurate but depressing nonetheless, summary for these parts today, so it's going to be a case of "spot the difference".

Frost like a covering of snow up here, but bright sun, cloudless sky.

Thick fog has lasted almost all day here, forcing me to stay indoors: I have a suspicion that Covid is more transmittable in these kinds of conditions, with little or no wind to blow it on its way.

I seem to remember that cold damp conditions are helpful to Covid, hence the high infection rates in meat processing factories,in which case staying in might indeed be preferable - and it's certainly more pleasant!
