Trouble is a rise in external temperature doesn't always translate into a rise (perceived or actual) in internal temperatures, particularly when the external rise is accompanied by increased dampness.

…and there is no sun to shine though and warm up the fabric of the house!

11C, and cloudy. Very mild for the time of year.

Indeed. Sometimes colder than the outside!

It felt strangely colder yesterday than the 1`2 C indicated - a clammy penetrating chill - yet today the temperature hasn't moved, but the air feels soft and warm once again. Perhaps it's just me!

The medium-term now depicts that high over N France spreading north across the UK and swelling into a major dominating feature, while our friends across The Pond have yet another powerful frontal system traversing SE, with, I imagine, the possibility for more tornadoes affecting the very same zone hit last week. In the meantime our resident high is expected to transfer northwards by the weekend to be positioned east of Iceland with a long V-shaped residual ridge down across the country bringing cloudiness and cold northerlies to our eastern side right through to Christmas.

                Worse things happen at sea?
Posts on here brought home the effects of Storm Arwen, but of course the storm wasn't confined to land, and as the strength and frequency of such events increase so too will the risks "for those in peril on the sea"

The header picture is misleading, this is the relevant craft, plus rescued craft. https://twitter.com/tynemouthRNLI/st...08037039587328

I just can’t imagine what it might be like at sea, during a fierce storm. The stuff of nightmares!

A rather dull day today. Heavy cloud, and 12C!

Glorious morning - hardly any cloud and very mild. It was a case of shedding a layer for the garden team today as we all found ourselves getting too warm in the sun! Lovely way to end the season though, all the more appreciated for not knowing whether our given return date towards the end of January, already later than we would normally have, will happen.

                        I quite like this weather.

My room is above the garage and cold weather adversely affects my sleep, even when I go to bed with extra layers!

A selection of rain, frost and fog overnight, with the fog lingering as the sun came up and looking very artistic against the pretty sky and the tree skeletons. It quickly cleared to give another lovely sunny day - not as mild as yesterday but still getting to double digits by midday.

One of those "have they looked out the window" days where the forecast is at odds with the reality. "Dry with bright or sunny spells" it says. No, wall to wall murk, blurred horizons, visibility rubbish, not raining just all pervasive damp, feeling much colder than it actually is. It was frosty first thing, but quickly cleared.
In one respect not a big problem as it's an incentive to stay indoors, so perhaps I'll get my cards and various bits of decoration finished.
The postie was cheerful - it's not raining and he doesn't have to worry about ice, he's happy with grey.
