It will warm up quite a lot this weekend, starting on Saturday in the west as maritime tropical air from the Azores sweeps up from the SW, and quite possibly lasting into mid-week. Temperatures are expected to be reaching 11-12 C, possibly as high as 14 C on Sunday. But it will be cloudy with all that imported moisture, any sunshine being largely restricted to the east coast, and north-east of high ground.

That be good. I like to go on my motobility scooter, when the weather is good. Certainly feel better for it.

Today is going to be a good day.

Had to have a tooth extracted this morning - the first top right molar after the incisor (or fang, as I like to call it). It has been giving me problems for some years with fillings, but discomfort around the socket suddenly escalated into pain yesterday, followed by little sleep last night and too much pain when munching to eat anything for breakfast beyond a dish of porridge. The possible reason my Ibuprofen did nothing for the pain was that they had passed use-by date - 2017!!! I was lucky the dentist - a private business 12 minutes' walk from where I live - was able to slot me in 15 minutes before her official start time, 9.30. She made an easy job of pulling the tooth after telling me a crown would be expensive and possibly not "take", and the whole thing was over in a quarter of an hour, with one stitch due to come out next Friday. Another 15 minutes in the waiting room just to make sure I was OK, and the £92 paid by card. The handout instructs one not to eat anything hot or tough in texture for 24 Hours, and only drink liquids cold. Paracetamol is recommended before the numbness wears off, so luckily there is a chemist not 10 minutes walk away. I really hope the effectiveness of the Paracetamol doesn't take long to activate - the treatment left me with the most intense headache I can remember since getting the Asian Flue aged 11, at school. What the dentist had done was inject directly into the gum and roof of the mouth, one of the most painful things I have ever experienced, causing me for the first time ever at a dentist to actually yell out. I think the dizziness and head-about-to-burst feeling is now starting to wear off - I have my weekly shop to do this afternoon!

            Yikes!

Hope you feel better soon, SA!

I too had to go to the dentist - yesterday. Just for a filling, and though of course I felt a bit weird after, with one half of my mouth numb and a slight headache, but nothing too painful...

            Great weather here today.

Dry but very cold, thanks to large quantities of NW wind. The sun broke through just in time to start going down behind the houses opposite. Set to be cold tonight as the wind drops a bit and the clear sky kicks in.

Last night's sharp frost very evident first thing but the wind having shifted round to SW quickly got rid of it. Given the wet forecast for later it's just as well we had a couple of days of drying wind.

A major temperature flip again. Yesterday at or just below freezing first thing, this morning 11 degrees. My joints don't like it much, but at least a brisk breeze, a bit of sun and no rain meant that a load of washing got a good flap on the line and although still pretty damp a lot of moisture has been removed and it will dry that much quicker inside as a result.

There's enough moisture in this airstream to have produced light showers as I took my afternoon constitutional - a musty mouldy scent in the air typical of early winter maritime tropical air, and stunning effects from the setting sun under-illuminating the lower layer of scud clouds though a golden veil of drizzle as I headed home before darkness. Temperature 13 C, but feeling milder with the lack of air movement. Great to be outside at this time of year without that horrible feeling of breathing through a perpetual damp cold nose, regardless of frequent wiping!

There will be more days like this during the week I believe.

Indeed so. An unseasonably 11C today! Still some neighbours have their heating on!!!

Rather cloudy outside, at the time of posting.
