I keep a number of candles at the ready, just in case anything like this should happen - and know where to put my hands on one of my lighters, which, astonishingly, still work nine years after my giving up smoking! Oh yes, even in London we get power cuts from time to time!

The wind came howling in from the north last evening for over four hours and has taken down trees all over the area. Escaped out this evening for curry and a beer. The pub was full of folk escaping the power outages.
        Yikes!

Minus 2 here as I type. I can see my breath, my room tends to get cold since it's above the garage and there's no radiator in here.

Still - thankful we still have electricity.

Wintry (or as I have always used wintery) showers indeed - 20 mins of quite thick snow flurries just now - not settling fortunately. The wind has calmed down a lot thank heavens, and the cloud is getting higher and more broken but according to the forecast there will continue to be precipitation of one sort or another - in fact the snow has just returned. I'll have to go and check whether any problems have arisen in the garden but that will be the sum of my fresh air I suspect.

Lookout for yourself JC....but you're not alone......

Seem to be coping quite well....

Miserable here, dark grey and heavy and very very wet, ageing, leaking topfloor skylight, nursing a brandy, brewing coffee.......but -
Plenty of football on soon, Premiership and Serie A (including my man Zlatan...!)...

Uh-oh....just saw the Smart Meter readout on costs for the week.....more Brandy quick!

Some considerable snow here this afternoon. Still coming down heavily as I listen to the St John's Advent Service.

Not looking like the power will be back today. Found an old gas camping stove in the shed so at least we can cook up stuff that's defrosting in the freezer, even if the kitchen is baltic. Beautiful day today. Went to Dunkeld which was Christmassy, with a dusting of snow. Missing the radio. BBC Sounds isn't quite the same. Reckon there's a lot of people worse off than us, especially those living further up the Glen.

Moving into day 4 without power. Spent a third night in the living room. Mrs C informs me that social media is raging at SSEN about lack of results in sorting things. Met a guy yesterday who keeps tropical fish and he has spent two days heating water on a gas stove trying to keep his aquarium warm enough to keep his fish alive...one gone already. Still cold. Alerts have dried up from SSE. No idea when we will be back on. Better get the logs in. The local rugby club has offered their facilities for a shower. Might take them up on it.

Our thoughts go with you John. All being well it should warm up quite a lot tomorrow, before turning colder once again on Thursday - but not as cold as it has been these last few days, I expect.

Yes jc, are you all electric? Mind you most gas and oil fired heating requires electrics for switching and ignition - Hope you are sorted soon!

Thanks all. The wood burner has been brilliant though the log pile has taken a battering. Novelty has long worn off. Head torches are excellent. At least I can get a bit reading done. Flann O'Brien seems somehow normal in the situation.

I've just received a text from SSE, "aiming to have your power restored by 30 Nov 2021 at 11.00". I'm in France but know from my neighbours (about 5 miles west of Aberfeldy, rather than in the wilds north of Kirrie) that the power went off on Friday night but was restored by 5am on Saturday morning. Living about half a mile from the nearest sub-station may have helped as people nearby (on the north side of the Lyon) are still without power. But I feel for you. There was no power here in France last year after 'Tempête Alex' for 4 days which was pretty disastrous all round.
