If you are located in the line of the expected storm force winds it might be advisable to put those garden chairs on the lee (south) side of a decent high wall, as winds of 90+ mph can easily lift items of that size and weight, which then effectively become missiles!

A bright start to the morning - frosty but plenty of sun, a light breeze and a pretty dawn. Impressive cloud formations, white at first but getting more and more dark, started to move in about 9 am (one looked like a large cruise ship, or an anvil upside down, covering half the horizon and sailing across in stately fashion) and an increasing breeze started throwing periodic rain spats against the windows. At about 11 the wind suddenly increased mightily, but as the rain seemed to have cleared I decided to go out briefly anyway, and was mostly OK apart from one "stopped in my tracks" episode as I rounded a corner, and the start of rather heavy rain on the way back. Cold needless to say, and has continued unpleasant since, but seeing what other places have been getting I'm not going to grumble.

Lecky-free zone since 2pm yesterday. Freezing. Slept in the living room last night as it was the only place with heat from the log burner. Drove to Mrs C's sister's this morning to recharge the phone and had to turn back twice because of fallen trees. Power promised by 11 tonight. The wind came howling in from the north last evening for over four hours and has taken down trees all over the area. Escaped out this evening for curry and a beer. The pub was full of folk escaping the power outages.
