That familiar, winter-weariness of "colder in than out"...... then you switch things on and the smart meter readout says.... "weekly budget exceeded!"...

I just want to see The Sun again...I'm sure its still there somewhere...

Jayne I'm sorry the sun has been MIA for you but I can reassure you that it does still exist, even if for now its presence is only evident in the far East... It's been useful and welcome to take the edge off a chilly wind here.Strange thing last night when the temperature stayed at daytime levels through the night until about 6am when it suddenly dipped several degrees.
I had my quarterly gas and electricity bills last week - a stark reminder of how prices have shifted. I used 30%less gas and 20% less electricity than the same quarter last year, and this year's period also covered the last 6 weeks of my 3 year fixed rate tariff (happy days!), but the amounts to pay were slightly higher than that previous quarter. Getting in another load of firewood won't seem so expensive now, as it'll make a difference to gas consumption, although obviously it comes with a side order of guilt.

          Rather uninspiring day today.

Stratocumulus felt carpet underlay cloud layer right across the sky, probably all day and tomorrow until the cold front introducing short-fetch maritime arctic air (P4) clears it all south on Sunday. I'll keep my powder dry on what is predicted from Thursday next week, in the hope it could be wrong!

It looks as though it could happen.

It might be the last day that I can go for a walk without a jacket or coat - which I've been doing for a number of days now. Quite a nice day, still and mild - all it could do with is a bit of sun and it would be very nice indeed.

The temperature has been ebbing away all afternoon - now 9 C after reaching 11, so now colder than all last night!

Indeed. Sunny, but not sunny enough for no jacket, what with the chilly wind.

I think there's a good deal of psychology involved: anticipating a real shock, one braces oneself in preparation, and it turns out not as bad as anticipated - as just now, when I was quite surprised to find that the temperature was no higher than 7 Celsius while on my walk. Mind you, I had gone for thermal underwear this morning, plus corduroys, in place of the jeans, and donned my quilted coat. I have strict clothes régimes, calibrated to seasons, ensuring that there is always something additional to resort to in t'wardrobe if it gets even colder.

S_A living proof of the theory that there’s no such thing as bad weather just the wrong clothes!

It has to be down to sub-zero minimas, and maxes below 5 C for me to enter the porridge régime!

If preparing porridge, don't forget to spice it up with some ginger.
