Incidentally, what has become of Spontex cloths?? Absolutely essential for that kitchen cleanliness thing yet nowhere to be found: I've now been on the lookout for them for a couple of weeks!!!
These? https://www.spontex.co.uk/product/es...sponge-cloths/ The stockist list appears pretty comprehensive so perhaps it's a supply issue - raw products/China/ lack of drivers etc etc?
I was never a fan of them as they always felt slimy to me which made me wary even if I knew they were clean. Reading up on them now they do seem to have a number of eco credentials - but then I don't use plastic type cloths anyway.
It clouded over very quickly here at about 12-30 although still dry, and the likelihood seems to be that it won't rain. The wind is taking it's time to moderate though so the temperature has taken a hit.

Well, I had thought that we had had our fill of rain yesterday, at least for a while.

      Seems not...

For the next few days, the weather will be sunny but rather cold.

Very noticeable frost last night silvering shed roofs, followed by a lovely sunny day. Rather chilly but not exacerbated by wind so not a problem. Volunteer gardening (now back to Wednesdays) looks as if it could be a bit parky, but so long as the wind doesn't get up and the rain holds off until midday it should be OK.

This morning reminds me of that nursery rhyme, ”Past three o’clock, on a cold and frosty morning!”

The refrain and the tune go back to renaissance times and both were possibly traditional ones used by the waits. Both are found in 17th century sources. The words of the refrain were used, for example, in the 1665 edition of John Playford's Dancing Master, the 3 rd edition, and were quoted or used in literature and song many times in the 18th and 19th century. A volume of Old English Ditties published in 1881 included a non-Christmas song with this refrain complemented by verses composed by John Oxenford. The Christmas verses given here and now most commonly associated with the refrain and the melody were written by George Ratcliff Woodward, who also wrote the words to 'Ding, dong, merrily on high, for The Cambridge Carol Book of 1924, which he co-edited.

The purpose of this site is to preserve the rich history of carols and hymns which might otherwise be lost. The ultimate goal is to have the largest collection of hymns and carols of Christmas ever published in the English language.

I'm sorry to say we're back to a blocked situation from Sunday, with a break-off high from the Azores high building up to the east and north-east which will deliver rather cold and damp conditions.

Today has been a foretaste. The sun very briefly broke through the murk just before midday, which set off leaky clouds, and it has been grey, cold and wet/damp since. On the plus side although it was very cold the lack of actual precipitation through the morning meant that the volunteer gardeners could get a fair amount of work done.

Very cold yesterday, as I took our puppy out for a walk. Wrapped up warm, a must for me, these days. Cloudy and 7C outside, at time of writing.
