Overcast, but likely to be warm apparently. More garden pottering today I think in the hopes that there might be some rain before too long.

Meanwhile the cloud has broken up too late this afternoon to bring much in the way of warmth. Temperatures are expected to be down around the 16-18 C max levels which are the late September/early October norms by Monday.

Been warm and sunny today and due more of the same tomorrow. In view of SA's news I'd better make the most of it!
I hope it's just a temporary glitch but when trying to check the temps for earlier in the day the period between 8-00am and 6pm didn't show so no info on anything. There has been some tinkering with the site so perhaps it's a temporary blip; I hope so as I find it useful. If there had been no records to post it would have said so - at least on the old version it did.

On a serious note, in terms of cost to the public purse it would seem so. I knew that over-generation had costs (in effect compensation payments to generators when they are asked to stand down) but didn't realise the scale of so-called constraint management. This is from here sse.com/news-and-views/2020/10/heating-homes-with-wind-could-save-millions-in-constraint-payments-and-benefit-society/
Constraint management is required where the electricity transmission system is unable to transmit power to the location of demand, due to congestion at one or more parts of the transmission network and currently costs around £500m per year.

Bit of a shock to hear the boiler fire up first thing this morning as the temp in the cloakroom got down to 15. Bright dawn but hazing over somewhat now; should stay dry until the afternoon though. Strange to see a noticeable wind chill being suggested as it's from a southerly direction.Have to pass on usual volunteer gardening duties today due to very little petrol so might potter in my garden instead, although I also need to walk into town for some shopping and would rather not do that in the rain. Choices, choices!
