The lunchtime forecast has been for heavy showers around here, but the inversion cap is intact from the look of the sky, making that most unlikely. It depends - will the cap hold? I am banking on it remaining so. The question is: who will be right?

Edit: Not me evidently! A friend just rang to report, while driving home from Kingston-on-Thames to Orpington, getting caught in torrential rain. Having been parked in hot sunshine, the ventilation was unable to cope with the sudden drop in temperature and he was struggling to see the road ahead through the resulting condensation!

I know how your friend feels!

      I know that experience!

Looks like a good day today!

Quite warm with weak sun through a veil of altocumulus; now with cumulus beginning to build up. I just hope it stays dry for my early afternoon ride over to Sainsbury's in E Dulwich - a 3-mile journey in each direction, ending with an exhausting uphill climb!

A rather grey, drizzly day today, I think.

Grey, cooler and rain possibly towards the end of the morning. It's possible to see the sun is up there but the layers of cloud are preventing anything more than a brief bright spot. Not very inspiring and I think I had better get a move on to get shopping done before any rain does arrive.

I think the sum of today's forecast rain was the few spots we had here just before midday. I wish I'd known - I could have done E Dulwich Sainsbury's first thing instead of yesterday afternoon, entailing a 20 minute queue at the checkout.

I tend to do my main supermarket shop on a Monday morning when it's relatively quiet. Friday is definitely the worst day to go and I avoid if possible, though persistently forgetting some vital item or running out sooner than expected usually means going two or even three times a week and sometimes a Friday.

The forecast light showers failed to materialise and it's been a better day than expected, though cloudy first thing. Most of the cloud went leaving a pleasant afternoon and evening.

Currently a pleasant morning, and could continue into the afternoon depending on how far north the later rain is. At least it isn't cold.

Are we, or are we not? That is the question?

Are you intending to audition for the next ad for Hamlet cigars then, BBM?

Tomorrow looks likely to be very wet indeed down here, but with the Azores high staking its territory west of Ireland next week it should be very pleasant. This afternoon the unusual amount of mud on woodland pathways was noticeable on my post-lunch walk - undergrowth has literally had a field day this year from all the rain. Excellent conditions otherwise - 21-22 degrees C is a very nice range for outside activity... or inactivity.

                        I wish SA!

Looks like it’s going to be a grey day here. Perhaps we will be getting some rain later?

There was talk of heavy showers and thunderstorms later this afternoon down here, but all this low clag from overnight rain is going to have to break up to allow the sun to get to work on warming up the surface so convection can get going.

Very pleasant here - about 20, mostly sunny.

First audible rumbles just now, located between Sutton and Croydon on lightning maps. Better got out for my afternoon constitutional, and make it short!
