A "leaky" day possibly (aka isolated showers), but even without actual falling wetness feeling very damp and also chilly - no real difference between day and night temperatures. At this rate the wood burner will be lit this evening...

Very sticky here, in spite of it only being 18 C, with a sun virtually unable to penetrate through about 3 layers of cloud. Shouldn't have bothered with a jacket for my afternoon walk. Hardy anybody about - is there footy on TV or something?Comment

Good to see the sun this morning, having been without since Friday morning, although surrounded by large quantities of murk which are set to get the better of it. Hoping it won't actually rain (the forecast is rather indecisive on that matter - nearly said front...) while I'm at work, it adds an extra layer of tiresomeness to the general boredom of not enough visitors.Comment

Reportedly temperatures in many parts yesterday were the lowest for the midsummer solstice for 40 years, some places colder even than 21 December last! Indeed, it reached 13 C here on the latter, but only 12.5 C here yesterday! It happens also to be unseasonably cold even in southern Spain, where temperatures reaching just 20 C are what we should be getting! Meanwhile, eastern Europe and western Russia have been experiencing heatwave conditions, with temperatures in the low to mid 30s! Just had a look at the BBC weather forecast for Vienna, Moscow, Rome and Venice. Temps well in the 30s with endless sunshine all week! Here it's said to be 17 C, occasionally sunny but with a very strong wind which is pushing the temperature down. I gave up last night and lit the stove in the evening, and the bed has had a blanket added to maintain warmth during the night. Today has been better as although the wind is chilly there has been a fair bit of sun to offset it and lift the spirits, and also help with drying things out a bit. Which reminds me I need to get the mower out - "daisies pied" are one thing but the assorted hawkweed flowering stems are now heading for 6" high and need dealing with.Comment
