Ours have always been left out, yet managed to survive. Until this year, that is... In any case they were getting to look rather tatty, and in need of replacement.

Well the medium duration forecast is a bit of a turn around! - temperatures anticipated to be in the mid-20s celsius by this time next week, with a surge of warm continental tropical air off of the Continent!

Grey and cool until about 2pm, but dry so the tree cutting went ahead. When the sun came out it got warm (as opposed to just "not cold") which was pleasant, and it looks as if that might continue which would make a change.

A lovely day day yesterday. Not too bad at the moment, though. Although, I think there is going to be more cloud.

The sun is struggling to get through but even so the rise in temperature is already noticeable. It looks set to be a busy BH weekend for the beleaguered leisure industry, fingers crossed there won't be too much friction as the remaining covid restrictions cause delays and queues.

Almost windless here, a dead, dank feel to the air, which would be oppressive were the temperature to be say 5 degrees higher; but it is 19 C, and with cloud sheets above marking the edge of the disturbance to the west weakening the sun's power, and convective cumulus threatening to build into showers later, this is probably as warm as it gets today. But hey! - the signs are still on for a warm (not too warm) BH weekend, which I think we all deserve!

Felt muggy at 20C and started sprinkling with rain just as I set off on my bike for first dental check since Covid onset. Bank balance will shortly be tested.

Hmm, the Met forecast has now decided on imminent and high probability of rain, rather a change from the earlier version, and indeed there are lumps of potentially wet producing matter shown on the map, but it's possible that here we'll slip between the two main patches. I've put a small load of washing out anyway as if the wind continues then it stands chance of getting less wet than when it came out of the washing machine.

Dull and a bit stuffy. Evidently there's been rain. Will there be more today?

Wall to wall sunshine currently, and for the rest of the day with luck. Already actually warm so it could get hot later. There is the slightest of breezes which I suspect could be the cause of sunburn especially for those at the seaside as it's from the east. I'll get the errands done sooner rather than later and then spend the day pottering in the garden, now that I can get seedlings and young plants into their final positions without worrying they'll be frosted or torn to shreds by easterly gales (well I have to assume both those are true but the odds should be better now - shouldn't they, pretty please??)

A lovely looking morning, and our local forecasters promised warmth!

Total cloud cover here but it's not cold and there is no wind at all. The BBC forecast seems to be back-tracking a bit on the amount of warm weather expected next week.

Still good here - visited two garden centres this morning so this afternoon will be planting, weeding and gutter clearing!

Sadly the florists I reported on as having closed during lockdown and then re-opened is to close, permanently, probably next month. I'm upset about this - not only because they are inexpensive, and always friendly whenever one visits - and the quality of the merchandise, which is potted plants as well as cut flowers, is always tip-top, but because they occupy a prime site, alongside two brasseries - I call the row of shops and restaurants in which they are a well-known landmark our answer to Paris's Left Bank! The lady in charge told me they have been part of a chain, of which only two will remain, in Mitcham and Wimbledon, respectively: although the staff suggested alternatives, doing what Londis just around the corner have done, which was to rent out or sell off half the premises, these were rejected. All very sad. That end of the old Crystal Palace Parade is quite a honey trap, particularly for young people in the summer, with a popular pub with a forecourt which puts on events such as open air jazz only just around the corner.
