I had to get the hosepipe out yesterday as there was too much watering of pots(mostly plants waiting to be put in the ground when it's not so dry...) to face with cans up and down the garden, but ran into problems with the temperature being so low that it wouldn't unwind off the reel properly. Then I found that it had cracked, but again, because it was so cold trying to put a connector on to fix the two bits together was an almighty struggle as the pipe wasn't flexible enough. Just as I was thinking that a kettle of hot water was going to be needed I succeeded, and then began the slow process of getting the water through the kinks in the pipe to get to the plants. The strange thing is that the past couple of nights have been frost free but despite that it has felt colder first thing because the sun has not got through and the breeze remains very chilly.

Just a few spits and spots from an incontinent thin altostratus layer which made a blob of the midday sun, now totally obscured by saturation level stratus clag. Temperature max 12 C - 2.5 C below mean, moderate nor'easterly. Bank Holiday Monday now doesn't look promising, but for a pessimist any permitted sense of euphoria comes when they turn out to be wrong.
