Bright blue cloudless sky here, but cold and breezy.
My phone says 1C, real feel -7C!

Not the sort of day to have anyone round to join us for a cup of tea/coffee in the back garden, sadly, though it's much warmer in the sunshine at the front, and the CH is off inside as the strength of the sun is making it pleasantly warm enough in the living room.
The height and the orientation of the house combine to cause a huge temperature difference between front and back.

5C outside, but fantastic sun in Arctic air!

At age 12 I was astonished to witness 3 inches of snowfall in London on Easter Monday, never having experienced a white Christmas. I then learned that snow was recorded as having fallen more times at Easter in this country than at Christmas.

On that particular occasion a deep low had moved into the southern North Sea, sucking down cold arctic air and giving prolonged snow along the east coast and inland as far west as Birmingham and Southampton, which is and was quite rare, most springtime snowfall coming from large shower clouds, which are able to develop from inland convection when the sun's heating power is alone sufficient to warm inland surfaces sufficiently to enable the necessary uplift, without additional forcing (i.e. convergence or orography, which can both supplement ground-up convection), and the air at low levels, coming inland from the surrounding seas at their coldest, is - like today - exceptionally dry.

Sunny but rather cold today. Is it the jet stream that’s causing this?

Plenty of sun this morning but a cold, cutting wind has sent the mercury plummeting. Optimistically booked an outdoor meal a while ago with friends for April 23 well aware that it's a gamble!

In its more frequently sluggish meanderings of recent years, one could say "yes" - but behind that there are causes thought to be inseparable from climate change.

Tonight's temperatures are expected to go far below freezing everywhere - in fact I wouldn't be surprised to hear of records for April being broken - and it's not over with, as another arctic plunge is predicted for Friday and the weekend. So, don't put those tender plants out yet.

Just had a heavy snow shower here lasting around ten minutes and heavy enough for it to settle for a while before the sun removed it. Feeling very cold.

Yes, sun disappeared, sky gone dark and now coming down like a blizzard once again.

Better than originally forecast today so the first gardening slot went ahead as planned, but golly it was a case of Michelin man levels of clothing, keep moving, and stay out of the shade! Occasional flurries of snow related matter(mostly the little soft white pellets) had a nasty knack of getting into gaps around the neck area which was tiresome. The flurries have intensified during the afternoon as the sun disappeared, so even colder.

Proper snow now, thick and wet.

Still bright here, though there were about a dozen hailstones an hour or so ago.
Despite the wind, the washing outside didn't really dry; probably ideal for being ironed, but that's on tomorrow's agenda, not tonight's!

Some time during the last couple of hours the various versions of snow have settled, and the cars all have a neat coating - frosting or icing appropriate terms under the circumstances given the temperature! Glad I don't need the car tomorrow as defrosting will be tiresome with the thick lumpy coating.

Snow flurries here today. No surprise really, with the cricket season almost upon us. Nasty cold wind too.
Mind you Easter day was glorious.
