Scarily wild night up here, lashing rain; now blusters still powerful, but the sun is occasionally out - or until the next storm-ette appears.

I don't know how windy it got here overnight, though it was certainly one of the windiest nights since moving here 17 years ago. Half of the soil in the potted ornamental tree I have outside my front door must have been scooped out by the wind, and was lying in a heap next to the pot!

Peaked at 60 mph overnight at the recording station west of me, so I imagine that's pretty much what we had here as well given topography and wind direction. Wind speeds dropping now and with luck will settle out to a more manageable mid to high 30s for the next 24 hours or so. There were some odd noises coming from the loft last night so at some point I need to take a look and see if anything is amiss - externally the tiles are still all in place thank heavens.

I’m sure down south, here, the wind was much higher than 60mph, rather anything, more like it to be around mph or more. Today, rather dull and boring!

Slashing overnight rain, but clouds thinning and...........wow! SUN!!

The sunrise was rather foreboding - dark scudding clouds and an aggressively orange disk of sun. So far although there's a lot of cold wind it's remained dry and intermittently bright when the sun gets through. Not a day for doing too much chit chat outside, and chilly for the stallholders in the market

Wind, rain, sun, blue sky and... hail. Was weird on my walk looking directly up at a blue sky with hail coming down.

Yes, sprinkling of snow/ hill / sleet on fell tops - not much, just a greyness.

A few minutes ago the souwesterly wind brought in gusts with hale loaded rain at a 45 degree angle - the bamboo showing above the fence temporarily almost disappeared and the forecast for the weekend is more 40-50 mph then more from west and reducing to 20mph from north-west tomorrow afternoon and on Sunday.

Windy overnight but dry, today continuing windy but much colder than overnight and with the added excitement of "occasional heavy and blustery" showers. Doing the shopping won't be pleasant, but if I get it done today then if the forecast is right about Sunday I can do something nicer than postponed shopping.

What a wild, wet and windy night, last night? Second one in a row! Fairly wi day now, too.

60 mph gust was recorded at Heathrow, apparently - must've been around 2 am when I was woken up by the howling winds and disturbing sounds of stuff being hurled at the SW-facing windows by lashing rain, as if coming from a fire hose! Thankfully the winds had died down somewhat by the time I cycled to the local Sainsbury's. I noticed lots of twiggy debris lying around, but no large branches: fortunately the leaves aren't out yet, which make the branches heavier and more prone to snap; but we've had so many episodes of gale-force winds in the past few years that most of the weaker or more rotten branches have been taken out anyway. One thing that's surprised me is that most of our big daffodils haven't been flattened.

Once this deep low pressure system is out of the way, by Monday, things are expected to quieten down, with yet another high pressure block from the west. Fortunately this is not expected to drag down air of arctic origin; nevertheless, with winds in the northern quadrant, and expected to tip around to the NE by next weekend and beyond, it looks as if temperatures won't be rising much, if at all, for most of the remainder of March.

Sleet, snow, hail, tad of sun, and all driven by a brutal noth westerly.
Utter yuk. Temp: apparently 2C but feels like 0C and dropping.
