Rain through the night and into the morning when it turned to snow. It's still snowing - and windy.

A pretty sky this morning. Palest apricot-tinted mares tail laid along the horizon with mackerel skin spreading above, and all without the brutal slashes of contrails. It will be a cold walk today, especially with the lazy east wind going through instead of round a body, but there should be some sun - and it's not raining.

It turned very murky here, following a bright morning - dark enough for vehicles to need headlights on at 2.30 when I went out for a 3-mile walk, made unpleasant by the damp air feeling like a cold wet flannel strapped across the face. Temperature no higher than 4 C, drizzle escalating to a light rain. Plenty of people out walking, as per usual here at weekends. Apart from the persistent gloom, this winter has been characterised by higher water tables than I've known since moving here: much of Belair Park presently consists of a lake. One would imagine the aquifers underlying the London clay to be sufficiently replenished by now to see off any drought water supply restrictions for the next few years.
