What gets me is that the BBC predicted yesterday that the yuk we had here would move SE during the afternoon.
Not only did it NOT drift away SE, but it intensified towards dusk and evening, and STAYED most of the night!
And is still up and around and doing well this a.m.!

Good news - Downing Street is working on a world-beating yukky weather track-and-trace system.

What are you complaining about? - it was to be expected when we were right in the middle of a bl**dy great low, and still flipping about well are in deep puddles! And with very very cold air coming down from the north way above us, it's encouraging for big showers, growing up into thunderstorms, of which there has been a rumble of thunder in NW London in the past half hour, and a few more over Gloucestershire/Shropshire way.

Should remain on the coldish side - 5 degrees or so below the seasonal norm, and not quite expected even to reach them when the new normal returns over the weekend. Glad I did my last long cycle ride of 2020 to the Kentryside on Thursday, when it was still summer!

Yes, yes, I get it about the swirling / circling low - saw the maps etc, BUT the disjunctions between the conclusions being drawn from those maps on screen, and what first actually happened, and then evolved, went on evolving into an exasperating mismatch set against the actual words said.

I keep getting the impression that these forecasters on BBC are under some kind of specific order to make it ALWAYS sound optimistic, the non-stop smiles, when the actual stuff on the maps behind them seems to be...well, saying something else.

SA - YOUR forecasts are usually more to be trusted than theirs!

Anyway, that's why I deserted BBC largely for www.yr.no.

............and oh yes, it is fair whacking it down up here.

Very wet first thing but cleared up late morning and has become a pleasant afternoon. I was able to get the last of the grass cut, and dry off the mower before putting it away. The tomatoes are beginning to suffer and looking at what's ahead I think the weekend is going to see most of them harvested - I'll need to see if I can get some flat boxes from the veg stall in the market tomorrow and free up space under the bed in the spare room. It's been a good year for them; although the long dry periods did make for later flowering and fruiting than was ideal it did keep the blight away, and that is what causes the most problems for outdoor toms. Having been able to browse sun-warmed fruits as I did the early morning garden tour is a joy that can be filed against bad days to come.
Another weekend activity is getting into the loft to start the seasonal clothes switch as warmer items are going to be needed.

I must ask the toms around here if they suffer from blight, the next time I am frequenting a certain district!

Reminds me of the man who asked the girl in a miniskirt one very cold day, "Don't you get chill blains?" - to which she replies, "No, only chaps"!

Well many's the time I've wished a pox on them, when cages of small animal, sacks of feed, back doors and veg plants have been subject to their outpourings...

Ah, then it appears you have a wee problem there, which I hadn't realised...

I'd forgotten there is yet another meaning to toms - probably because it's outside my experience - which makes more sense of your earlier reply...

Chopped and change for the most part yesterday. Let’s hope for better things today. I doubt it.

Stormy weather indeed here - a wet blustery night and set to continue but brighter with sunny intervals. There’s a blue sky dotted with a mix of white and grey - cumulo nimbus?

You may be pleased(although not in a malicious way I know) to hear that that has happened. Horrid out, and no prospect of improving according to the forecast. As it is already very windy(and set to quickly become more so) as well as wet I doubt the Friday market will have much to offer. The fish van will probably be there, nothing seems to deter them( to all intents they B]were[/B] the market during lockdown!), possibly the cheese van, and a pared down greengrocer stall. It will not be worth the rest turning out, not least because trying to put the stall covers up in these conditions is a nightmare.
My daily breath of fresh air may well be confined to reducing problems in the garden - things blowing away or over.

We had 13.2 mm of rain yesterday - unlikely to impress anybody in Cumbria, but a positive deluge in these parts, and plenty more forecast for today.
