Overcast and rather muggy here but reasonably warm, and not raining. If and when the sun appears this afternoon it could get pretty warm - and the pollen will be rising, so better to get out this morning.

Another good day today. I think the temp will be resting mid 20s?!?!?

Up here, wall-to-wall dreich. Fells AWOL under cover of drizzle and yuk.
            Coming south, I think.

Here we have a pale grey sky - a nothing sort of day so far!

Looks like I spoke too soon - cloud layer gone and a lovely summer day now!

Much warmer than I'd been expecting here today: 25 C on the north-facing wall at 12 noon - so it'd probably be a couple of degrees higher in a properly sited Stepehson's Screen - excellent viz; sky half covered with flattened out cumulus or stratocumulus; very hot in the sun.

Sadly this looks likely to be a one-day wonder, and the further south one is the better. Tomorrow a cold front which has been lurking in the Trossacks is expected to inch its way southwards, reaching the south after dark. This front looks like stalling as it comes up against the high pressure grimly holding on over N France, which, with all that hot Continental air being prodded by the cooler air across us to its north, could pep up any rain forming along the front. Who might get affected depends on where the front actually lies. Once cleared, pressure builds up again from the west, this time, so it will be dry and temperatures should recover to normal by about Wednesday, with decent amounts of sunshine as long as the inversion level is low enough to prevent convective infill occurring, as is the case today, and cooler nights.

Front has indeed stalled right overhead here! Drat!

Just back from a longish circular walk, 4 miles or so, taking in as many parks and tree-lined avenues as I could find for shelter from the blazing sun. I got talking to a nice lady, who I often chat to whenever she's out in her front garden. I was grateful for a few minutes' rest at that point, still having a good ten minutes of walking left to bring me home. We were talking about gardening, and it turned out Audrey has a bit of a "thing" about weeds, which would explain how she manages to keep her garden looking immaculate. "I put down old cardboard to suppress the weeds - well, I mean, you see cardboard packaging all over the place from these delivery people, don't you?" she said, "and I then cover the cardboard with bark". "Not Beethoven - or maybe Mozart, then? Does it have to be Bach?" I asked. "Well, most often it's Bach - Offenbach", she replied.

I thought that was rather good.

It was, well done her. A very warm day here especially when the sun came out, I was glad I didn't have to do anything much and that there was a bit of air movement to offset the mugginess.

I went out for my first real saunter yesterday, late morning. Down town to the bank, stopping by Greggs for a baguette! Not surprised I was in bed by 8 pm, I think that’s why I was in bed early!

                        Another lovely day, today.

Today here - the Land of Lost Content or what: utterly AWFUL. Fells totally invisible in mist, drizzle, yuk, driving quietly on a sneaky westerly, soaking everything in minutes.

Destined for here tonight and tomorrow. In the meantime bright sunshine still, though less warm than they are predicting, I think. I might try and get out on the bike this afternoon.

Thank you! In my more mobile days, the South Downs, not being far from us, my wife and I would go from Ditchling to Lewes. A 14 mile round trip.

A less than sunny day here.
