Quite windy last night. Seems to have calmed down now though. Blue skies though!

17.3 C (windchill 16.2), almost cloudless sky and thus bright sunshine, and I'm dead-heading my petunias in a biting wind in early July - weird or what?

Yes, the weather saved us here from an invasion. The wind particularly deterred bikers, even the 'middle-aged-wannabe-16-again' bikers. gusty blasts of wind on narow, dangerous, stone-wall corners brought about several scrapes, bangs and squealing fright-fests, so the police say. Two guys ended up in the river - one wet + machine bashed but OK, the other machine write-off, he not OK. ambulance etcetc. Just another weekend in the Dales.

The wind will drop they reckon(thank heavens), but doesn't look as if it will improve the temperatures, which are distinctly unsummery, unless the sun gets out.
A shame about your hollyhocks Draco, they are such a lovely part of the summer display, not least because you don't have to bend down or peer to see them. At work they seed between paths and walls and although can be a bit of a problem in terms of visitor access in places they look lovely and bring much pleasure - over the years a certain colour palette has developed which goes well both with the soft red brick walls and the varied borders around the site - what I call sunrise colours, soft pinks, apricots, yellows, with the occasional dark crimson and sometimes an almost black one, all single flowers. I fear that without the garden team there to put in judicious ties they will have suffered and sadly may well have to be cut down if/when we re-open later this month.

You too have back problems - I can sympathise!

Much less windy today, but also cooler - quite cold first thing. Some cloud build-up suggested showers earlier, but it seems to be in-filling now with stratocumulus spread, suggesting an inversion cap at about 10,000 ft, strong enough to prevent any showers growing to that stage when they can become thundery.

Yes, the rest of the week looks a bit nondescript, with the Azores High not showing much enthusiasm for coming our way, and no lows to the west deep enough (or highs to the east big enough) to sweep hot air up from Spain. While it now looks like turning into "one of those summers" (or glummers as I call them), there's still all to play for come August/September.

Not too bad today. Or yesterday, as it turned out.

Tipping it down currently. Might postpone my walk.

Tiresome weather so far today, overcast, not quite warm, and sporadic dampness not tipping into rain. The weather map is covered with blue, yellow, red - except for a big gap over my neck of the woods - so although it has just started almost raining properly I'm not counting on anything useful being delivered - but would be delighted to be proved wrong.

Looks like that linked chain of shallow frontal lows that's just now affecting Joseph's region is going to hang around the south/south Wales for the next 3 days before moving away east on Friday as high(ish) pressure builds up from the SW. Time to get out to the shops.

'Tiresome' - exactly how I would describe the weather at the moment here on this part of the Suffolk coast.
