8 here according to my phone. Overcast - but not raining, so I don't mind this weather at all.

It rained last night, hooray. Not enough to make a difference to the soil but it has washed the dust out of the air and perked things up a bit. It's a pity the wind is not only cold but also strong enough to dry out the moisture quickly, it's also keeping the temperature down to 10 degrees or just below which isn't comfortable. The tomatoes I put out a few days ago are not happy, but should cope, but the courgettes and cucumbers put out Tuesday evening may need covering to get them through the next few days at this rate.

According to local weather station we had half a millimetre yesterday. Useless for the garden soil. I assume it will have sat on top briefly and then evaporated.

Rained last night and earlier this morning. It's only 9°, I've had to put the fire on!

Glory be - 0.6 mm of rain overnight - decision not to water the garden last night triumphantly vindicated!

Good grief, so much blue especially on the northern part of the weather map, that it's difficult to see where the coast is. Haven't seen that for a while. Such blanket coverage increases the chance of something reaching here, and certainly it's raining at the moment. The wind I could do without - strong, gusty and cold - and I'm certain my poor little veg plants don't enjoy shivering and having leaves ripped.

My sister turned up around 10:30 and we struck lucky with our walk - sun and blue sky; now: rain and hail!

I was lucky with my shopping trip this morning. It was raining a bit but clearing as I set out, and having decided to cut the trip short as I was cold and hungry, I got back minutes before the heavens opened and the rain bucketed down, pepped up at one point by hail. Sun and blue sky with fluffy white clouds are now chasing away the black, and both the forecast and the weather map suggest a window to complete the shopping once the lunchtime concert has finished. Nothing urgent, but as Saturday looks distinctly uninviting re: precipitation risk and temperature it would seem sensible to seize the current chance.
So strange to be having to think like that after so many weeks of not needing to consider the risk of getting wet - cold or sunburnt yes, but not wet!

                          … subsequently sunny again.

This is more like trad April weather...

Yes, don't know about elsewhere, but down here we've been remarkably lucky up to this point with the weather, when it comes to queuing to shop. Roll on next winter???

It turns out that the 3 mm of rain from the downpour that woke me at five this morning was more than the entirety of precipitation in the preceding 33 days around London!

And I'm pleases to report that I judged the second trip out to a tee. Got the benefit of the sunshine, and quiet in town, got back home about 5 mins before the storm hit. It was a cracker - lightning but no thunder, howling gale pushing a mix of rain and hail horizontally. Would have been a tad uncomfortable to be out in that...
My French and runner beans now look as if they have been shot - holey leaves all over and some blown off the poles; they are only young plants and their winding mechanism is a bit weak yet as are the stems.
