Yesterday we managed to miss the thundery rain, which passed mostly to the west during the evening, apart from very large drops falling so copiously just before midnight I thought it must be hail, and the only surprise was it didn't thunder. Today nondescript grey stratocumulus over poor visibility, light winds and a slightly oppressive feel. Maximum temp 15 C. I need a couple of medium-sized pot plants for my mini pseudo Japanese garden, now mostly cleared of Nigella and Aquilegia to reveal my choice selection of pebbles - which plants to go for is always based on what's available at time of shopping, but both my regular plant nurseries on this particular walk are now closed - I really don't understand this: OK the walkways in these places dont leave room for regulation 2 metre passing, but there are plenty of them to allow alternative routes, and it's out in the open.

It's also a question of safe working for the staff - and whether they have enough to cover potential sick leave.

A strange day, a bit of a nothing day weather-wise, but why was the only rain during the day whilst I was ‘click and collect’ waiting at Sainsurys?
First time I’d ventured out and driving for over 4 weeks!

Another lovely day to look out at, with this shielded mode going on.

Cloudless, BUT as the day wore on, the east-south-easterly has risen in blustering intensity and is rattling the roof up here.
And forecast to continue like this for the next few days - maybe even most of the week.
And NO rain is forecast for here either.
Evening 'exercise' walk a real fight back against the wind banging across the Dales ridges and predating on west-facing communities.

Bright with light cloud at the mo. R3 said there's some chance of showers in the SW but none seen so far, and an online local forecast gives us a 0% chance of rain hour by hour despite a bit more wind later.

Unbroken blue sky here, but a chilly breeze.
My phone app says 12C, real feel 10C.

Similar here. the wind is strong and temperatures are very much in single figures out of the sun. Gardening definitely needed a jacket. The wind is also adding to the lack of rain problems. I've just had to spend best part of 2 hours on what I call survival watering, ie giving things enough just to see them through the next few days, not to encourage better growth. High pollen levels being force fed to susceptible membranes didn't add anything positive to the experience, but at least things should stay alive for now.

Thanks for the reminder re watering! Strong, dry north-easterlies are very common indeed at this time of year - the anticyclone responsible this year is expected to translocate slightly south, bringing the winds affecting the UK around to the south-east from mid-week onwards, resulting in higher temperatures of E Mediterranean source, but also probably increased pollution levels. Don't mistake hay fever for Covid-19, we are now being told!

Had this thought a few weeks ago. Experienced a tickle in my throat and started to think the worst - then reminded myself that I do have a tendency for hayfever.

Beautiful, albeit windy today. Green trees too.
