Wow, Beast from East [ well, NE] is back tonight out there, and with spits of fast rain in it every so often.

Still that wonderful weather we are experiencing. Which is all good when you are gemmed in 24/7.

Not nice morning. Cloud, no sun and the strong cold wind would be enough, but added to all that some really unpleasant 'wintery showers'. Not particularly heavy rain, into which has come not just scraps of snowflake but also those spiteful snow pellets - mini hailstones. The strength of the wind greatly increases the effect of the rain, ditto the snow pellets, so definitely the outside world does not beckon at present! On the plus side the band of 'rain' is quite narrow on the weather map, and the sky to the NE is showing signs of lightening and clearing here so might be possible to venture out late morning for combined exercise/shopping before the next blob of nastiness - lurking in the wings on the map - arrives. The garden is not an option for exercise in conditions like these and I need to get out and moving after a rather sedentary, although productive, day inside yesterday.

Can do garden, but totally agree - striding and getting system working up slopes crucial for me.

Actually I realise that isn't strictly accurate and that what I meant was that 'doing the gardening' isn't a sensible option - cold, wet and flying debris. In terms of exercise it has potential being a straight strip well over 200' long...I'm keeping that in reserve though as the pressure on the grass from increased use would up the fall risk from slippery conditions. Pinch points already require a certain amount of care, mindful as I am of the medics saying I am at high risk of vertebral fracture due to osteoporosis.

Fine and sunny here, blue sky but a fair bit of cirrus. 10 degrees but feels cooler in breeze.

Sun mostly, though a bitter wind.

We had a brief hail shower just after 11.00 a.m. Much sunnier now but the pesky north-easterner is still gusting away.

The wintry showers did that here a while back, I felt sorry for anyone caught in them; being peppered with iced snow pellets in near freezing temperatures isn't pleasant.
There is some sun and blue sky at the moment but the wind continues so it's cold - about 3C - so I'm not going out after all today, lugging a bag of shopping back in these conditions is not sensible and it will wait for now.
Not sure why the pollution levels are 'Medium'? You would have thought that with the wind and assorted precipitation, to say nothing of reduced pollution generating activities, they would be low.

We have them I don’t think this was forecasted, was it?

Like this all day on Devon/Dorset border. Glorious but NE wind cold.

Light ale showers here, though there were a few snowballs around lunchtime.

A very attractive passer-by on my afternoon walk answered my smile with "How are you?" "Fine thank you - I'm two and a half metres away. How about you? Are you two and a half metres away as well?"

I think I might practise this as my chat-up line while this crisis lasts.

Earlier on a group with a dog on an extendable lead allowed their pesky mutt to charge at me, barking furiously. "You're not allowed to come any closer, you know!" I said.
