Well, sorry, dear northern friends, but it's bright with lots of sunshine and a brisk coldish drying wind here - temperature 5 C. So, gloves and wooly hat on; and I shall have to watch out when I reach the very exposed top of the steep descent to Croydon, where I've experienced nearly being blown off my bike in the past!

Before my understanding of the meaning of the word "isolated", I remember asking my mum if "isolated showers" meant they would be of hail!

So, we're all back to mild claggy conditions tomorrow, lasting until Thursday in the north, after which strong winds and colder air are expected to flow southwards, courtesy a deepish low stuck off East Anglia while high pressure descends from Arctic regions, bringing back brighter but colder conditions, and, one supposes, show showers to Scotland and the north. We're lucky here - northerlies in winter often deliver brilliant sunshine and the clearest possible visibility: time to muffle up and take the binoculars somewhere elevated with a nice view.

Here, that thick mist and drench, especially tiny, all-soaking literally in minutes Fells rain.
All hills completely invisible and it is NOT warm 'for the time of year'- whatever platitudinous crap the BBC forecasters utter. Garden thermometer says 4C.

Back to clag and drizzle - Crystal Palace's famous answer to the Tour Eiffel half-clothed in mist - but at least above-average temps today. Such will remain the position, more-or-less, for the weekend, after which it will turn colder from the north, but brighter once more for a while. Such is the price of mildness in British winters!

Utter bonkers lies and deceptions for us up here: I cannot see the fells, or any horizon - all deep in thickest, densest cloud, nasty saturation wind that soaks EVERYTHING in minutes, and they are talking of a dry afternoon.............temp here is 6C, and they are talking of 12-14C.

If you want to concur with official weather forecasts, you first have to breathe on your thermometer, DracoM!

Long-term forecasters of the more reliable kinds are predicting very windy and wet conditions for February, borne of a strong jet coming out of an exceptionally cold Canada, even by Canadian winter standards. The recommendation for any outdoor activity is to make the most of what are expected to be dry, sunny, but frosty days from Wednesday to Saturday, following the coldish NW-erly outbreak coming on Monday.
