Fog this morning and fairly thick too.Don’t cry for me

Woke up late to glorious sunshine, and the day's forecast is quite different from what it was last night. In addition to a necessary outside excursion for errands I think some time in the garden this afternoon may be on the cards. Given the combination of recent lowering weather and news it seems important to take any opportunity for natural mood lifting.

Edit: From the looks of things, it is going to be pretty mild well into January, with temperatures between 2 and 4C above seasonal norms across the piece, borne on a quite strong, broad westerly/west-southwesterly, elongated high pressure just to the south and low pressure systems running from Canada towards Iceland and on up into the Arctic, just as should be.Last edited by Serial_Apologist; 30-12-19, 15:32.

I suppose the lack of bright sun will be of benefit to those who participated too well in New Year's Eve libational activities, but for me the current dull damp nothingness does rather sum up my feelings about the year ahead at the moment. A burst of therapeutic garden activity before CE may be called for; the birds will appreciate access to food and clearing up feline offerings will reduce the chance of a repeat of contaminated logs being brought into the house...

Somebody on the UKWW site has just described today's cloud formation on the passing weak cold front as "stratocumulus streakybacongenitus", which is rather good - we need a few new defintions!
Apparently Norway has registered a record high temperature for January of 19 degrees Celsius, that being 25 degs C above the monthly norm!!!!!!
Just think about that for a mo, because the difference between our maximum averages for January and July is just 16 degrees C.
I don't believe it has ever managed to get that high anywhere in the UK in January. We did break the 21C rcord in February last year, and of course the 37C all-time 100F in July.
