If tomorrow morning promises to be another like today, I might well escape on the bike along the 6 mile riverside walk linking Beckenham and Deptford, which always looks beautiful whatever the season, and should be exceptionally so with the low-slanting sunshine catching the last remaining leaves. The only problem will be slippery surfaces from damp uncleared leaves - plus any dogs off leashes!

Dogs......grrrr! Tell me about them!
They really can be menaces.
In my area, farmers are allowed by law to shoot dogs molesting ewes in lamb and after. Tourists think up here is a a walk in the park and let them off the leash as they like, then get ratty when their frisky little darlings are shouted at by us locals.

And frost already brutal here.

The sun's not strong enough to penetrate through, and the wind too weak to clear the overnight fog up here, thus sadly ruling out my intended expedition. Had this been July, the present weather set-up would have given us a heatwave, just imagine!

Much to my surprise there was sun first thing this morning and the fog was not too much in evidence, although the hard overnight frost was. Any murk quickly cleared and it has been a lovely sunny, blue sky, day, with considerable drying activity - although the lack of breeze means that the drying reflects the aspect of the item in relation to the sun! It all helps though to reduce the amount of time on airers indoors.

No frost here but the weather station read 3.5 when I arose this morning - now a lovely sunny late Autumn day but at 8C not the warmest!

More or less the same in this bit of the Pennines - though 6C felt warmer than I wqas expecting after yesterdays "Car Lolly" temperatures. Got a bit overconfident: after a bit of overdue deadheading and clearing up in the Garden, and refreshing the bird feeders, my fingers are now purple and throbbing as they recover from the chill!

The joys of wind chill! It did get below freezing in the early hours and there is a pretty swirly frost pattern on the car windows as a result. What I hadn't expected was that the doors would be iced shut. I'm not sure that the temperature is going to go up enough to do the necessary even once the sun gets round, as shed roofs out the back(facing east the so getting the sun from first thing) which would usually be steaming by now as the ice melts are doing nothing.It could be extension lead and hairdryer time, heigh ho.
On the plus side there was a lovely, and long-lasting, sunrise scene to watch from the back of the house - golden washed horizon outlining the trees(like the christmas card scenes), and a stray belt of fluffy greyish cloud underlit with pink, and it should stay sunny through the day.

Last night's sunset has been mentioned on the Advent Service thread.
There was a similar effect here in York: the Minster was bathed in a wonderful golden glow as we queued up shortly after 4 (the service began at 5:15).
Very sharp overnight frost again, with estate lake frozen, but now it is clear and bright, so the solar panels are doing what we hoped for!

- 2 even here on my north-facing wall thermometer in S London, seemingly the lowest temperature in the area. It was only 2.5 C at noon!
