Here, fells invisible, driving fine, finest, all-saturating rain, whipped on by a searching westerly. Total dreech.

That rain is due to cross the Midlands and south tonight, clearing the south coast early, to be followed by a nice build-up of high pressure across the middle of the country. As with many promising looking anticyclones, this one appears to disappear off the scene by Monday, sadly; so, make the most of Saturday, everywhere, and Sunday for the Midlands and south!

It's funny that the lady forecaster on the BBC lunchtime TV news predicted that the cloud that has spread in would now last for the rest of the day, because it has now almost all cleared here, to give a beautiful, very warm sunny afternoon. Time to make the most of all that Vitamin D going free!

Well. it's c 17.30 as I post, and it is now a fierce wind, rodding it down and it is appreciably colder and again, a virtual white-out above 100 feet.
Am watching the Test Match on TV and am amazed at what the crowd is wearing - shirtsleeves, T-shirts etcetc.

Another country who do things differently there.

But now, 21.42 - Wow! Moon and Stars!! But, boy, is it cold!!

Shade temp is only 16 but in full sun it was pretty warm while just doing some light autumn pruning.

                  Quite idyllic here.

Oh dear, once again. It was pleasant here yesterday, sunny and rather windy, becoming very warm during the afternoon as the wind swung round more southerly. The evening was balmy for the walk to and from choir - good for sitting out. Today is sunny and less windy - a good thing as it's a cold wind.

Much warmer in the brilliant sunshine tioday than the shade temperature of 19C indicated, so I put the rug out on the lawn, with Radio Times and a red biro for marking up prospective programmes next week, only to be joined by the neighbour's tabby cat, who came over to be made a fuss of, and then sprawled herself right across the pages!

Looking forward to biking up to the RFH for a lunchtime performance by the young Afro-Funk collective Kinotiki Bloco, who put on spectaculars, with massed dancing in African attire, Fela Kuti style - then, just to chill things off - a guided history walk around Ruskin Park in Camberwell, led I believe by somebody who's written a book about John Ruskin.

Still only 15C in the shade after going down to 8C last night, but the sunshine is brilliant in a cloudless sky with infinite visibility, so I'm off now for some groovy Afrobeat with dancers at the Festival Hall, then onto Ruskin Park to learn all about one of his local haunts. It's good to remind oneself that other things are happening!

What truly irks me ref BBC weather is that the temps etc are routinely give on national broadcasts for London, Cardiff, Belfast and Edinburgh.
                                Notice anything?

Manchester / Liverpool cluster? The Birmingham cluster? Glasgow cluster? All huge centres of population and literally never mentioned.

And also, Manchester, Liverpool. Glasgow are all WESTERN FACING from where most of our weather comes, and thus western areas for the most part get it first.

Pah! So no need to wonder why as a western living person I use www.yr.no which can be specifically centred on your own home area.
