It rained quite unexpectedly yesterday around noon! I thought I should bring my waterproof.

Some unexpected rain just passed within a whisker to the east of us just now, courtesy a very heavy black piled up cumulus cloud. That should be it until Monday, which is expected to be a wet day for most places. But then it looks like settling down, at least until later next week, with temperatures returning to near normal (20C max in early September for London area) or even slightly above - albeit with coldish nights.

Today, after at least a week the wind has abated, making for a pleasantly mild and calm day.

          Those pesky black cumulus clouds!

          Blue sky today!

Cold nights and warm days should bring good autumn colour to the trees and shrubs. It is cold here not just cool, I'm hoping it warms up a little before too long else my tomatoes will suffer. It's a good crop but I would rather be able to eat as they ripen rather than have to try and find storage space for ripening indoors.

Let's hope they're also right about it warming up from Wednesday onwards them, as looks likely - 23-24C by the weekend!

Plumber due tomorrow to advise on one of the radiators, which seems not to get properly hot, despite no apparent airlock. It will soon be time to put the heating back into service.
Distinctly cold and miserably wet here today.

Indeed. Sunny and cloudy today. So I’m hoping it’s fairly warm outside. Just recently, I’ve fo7nd it a bit too chilly.

Noticeably milder today thank heavens. The wind has dropped down so the sun is much more effective than of late. I'm hoping the overnight minimum temp of 4 on the outside thermometer was an aberration! The stove went on last night as although in theory the living room was not cold the practice was somewhat different. My woodstore was finally made yesterday so now I can order in supplies, although I need to apply some preservative to some of the slats on the store before I load it up.

Indeed, it's horrible when the temperatures fall prematurely in the autumn, since it makes the winter longer! Never mind, the predicted warm-up is still on, with temperatures into the low 20s from tomorrow to the weekend at least.

                          Rather uninspiring today.

A slightly odd selection today, and not what the Met forecast - I think there may have been a split between the West and East of the county, as happens sometimes, but can't check as the Beeb don't give the option to look back at weather that's happened earlier.
It was cool first thing, and sporadic short but rather spiteful and wet showers had the volunteer gardeners popping in and out like weather dolls. It got warm and rather sticky at midday and the afternoon has been pleasant, if rather draughty again.

Stunning sunset here as the weak cold front retreated to the south-east, with the sun catching the undersides of fragmenting altocumulus, turning them vivid salmon pink and orange, making the lower stratocumulus appear purple. It was good enough for someone's photo of it to be posted on tonight's national weather forecast; and btw it looks like it's going to be really steamy tomorrow.
