A somewhat strange day here in that the light rain forecast for the afternoon actually came in the morning while the afternoon has seen the pleasant sunshine originally given out for the morning. The strong wind has ruined all day, though. Not greatly warm either unless you can find a sunny spot away from that wind.

Similar here. Cloudy, and the rain appeared intermittently before around half 1, when it briefly tipped it down. Then sunny for most of the rest of the afternoon. On the cool side. Typical early autumn.

That was the summer that was! Into autumn?

          Last night decidedly chilly.
Today bright, sun, cloud, and BIG westerly. Rain on the way judging by misty horizon out over seascapes beyond the fells.

When the cold front made its passage yesterday afternoon here, I was among thousands of young and youngish people enjoying the freebie Camberwell Green Fair - a festival of local craft, food and drink stalls, with a couple of bandstands putting on a mixture of Disco dressed up as Soca from a local West African band, soulful Garage from a very attractive Amy Winehouse soundalike ("more like Billie Holiday" my friend thought) and an incredible human beat boxer - one more a tent really. Skies rapidly lowered and darkened, and the thick light rain swept through on a briefly fresh wind, driving festival goers under trees, then all quickly returned to normal, if slightly cooler. What a lovely crowd - no hassle, no dodgy characters lurking around, only a couple of spliffs noticeably wafting in the air, and both the cider and the beer on offer were delicious. I figured I was probably the oldest person there!

Absolutely rodding it down up here, driven by a bashing westerly, and it has been all day, just getting heavier and heavier by the hour.
AND it is very noticeably colder.

Well not much going to happen down here today, methinks.

.......and this a.m., we are in white-out: fog, low cloud, fells invisible, stillness, drizzle and general yukky dreech.

Nice day down here - - I should be out making the most of it: rain tomorrow morning, then the rest of the week looks pretty cool and breezy.

Sunnier and warmer than originally forecast, a pleasant early autumn day in fact, which helped to bring out the 'last day of the holidays' visitors. Tomorrow due to be much cooler, and wet in the morning - with luck that will have gone over before it's time for the volunteer gardening, and given the continuing wind it won't stay damp underfoot.

You're further north than me, so the rain should be through your area early on, unless they've got the timing of the cold front passage wrong.

Timings have been well adrift several times recently(no blame attached, reasons beyond their control etc) - it's been quite fun sometimes seeing how quickly things change, and adding in the differences between Met Office and Beeb causes some dissent among colleagues when we're trying to guess visitor numbers and/or decide whether to move activities.
I only live a couple of miles away so it's not a big problem if the gardening has to be abandoned.

Indeed they did! It's funny how we're not even 3 weeks from the autumn solstice, and yet my sun shadow is only 6 feet long at midday - twice the length it is on midsummer's day. And the midday sun feels just as strong and as hot on a clear day like today. Of course, the difference is that at the beginning of April, which is the equivalent time on the opposite side of the season curve, so to speak, air temperatures are only expected to reach 12C, not the 20C early September average, because in early April the ground is still cold, night time temperatures still falling to 3c (not 11C!), and winds are coming off seas not far off their coldest. To get the full heat effect of the sun in early April it has to be absolutely calm, because that effect is always mitigated by the cooling effect of the wind. It really does take until the end of June to bring our temperatures up to their average at this time of the year... and even then the June nights are still colder!
