A somewhat strange day here in that the light rain forecast for the afternoon actually came in the morning while the afternoon has seen the pleasant sunshine originally given out for the morning. The strong wind has ruined all day, though. Not greatly warm either unless you can find a sunny spot away from that wind.

When the cold front made its passage yesterday afternoon here, I was among thousands of young and youngish people enjoying the freebie Camberwell Green Fair - a festival of local craft, food and drink stalls, with a couple of bandstands putting on a mixture of Disco dressed up as Soca from a local West African band, soulful Garage from a very attractive Amy Winehouse soundalike ("more like Billie Holiday" my friend thought) and an incredible human beat boxer - one more a tent really. Skies rapidly lowered and darkened, and the thick light rain swept through on a briefly fresh wind, driving festival goers under trees, then all quickly returned to normal, if slightly cooler. What a lovely crowd - no hassle, no dodgy characters lurking around, only a couple of spliffs noticeably wafting in the air, and both the cider and the beer on offer were delicious. I figured I was probably the oldest person there!

Sunnier and warmer than originally forecast, a pleasant early autumn day in fact, which helped to bring out the 'last day of the holidays' visitors. Tomorrow due to be much cooler, and wet in the morning - with luck that will have gone over before it's time for the volunteer gardening, and given the continuing wind it won't stay damp underfoot.

I only live a couple of miles away so it's not a big problem if the gardening has to be abandoned.
