Large pea-sized hailstones now falling here - neighbours have rushed out to gather their washing from off the line! Just waiting for the first flash of lightning.

Very disappointing bank hioliday weekend weather, following the excitement of Saturday's hail and thunder showers: temperature not likely to rise much above the present 11 C, and too much cloud shielding the otherwise warm May sun's strength to encourage going out without the winter overcoat.
We're definitely paying for that Easter treat!
Much needed rain everywhere on Wednesday and Thursday, however.

Thundery activity really taking off now to the SW - one line (probably convergence) from Somerset into Bristol and running NE, and a mass of spherics ahead of it, breaking out in Teamsaint's and Ilex's area. We just had a heavy shower here - amazing when I think I only went out for a quick around the block to check for appraoching weather at 12 noon, and there seemed to be none; but this only demonstrates how quickly convection can kick off in the middle of a depression, where air has nowhere to go but up, once that strong May sun gets going on the wet surfaces.Last edited by Serial_Apologist; 08-05-19, 12:13.

I've just counted 32 lightning flashes as having occurred in a storm that passed between St Albans and Hertford less than an hour ago. That seems to represent the peak in thunder activity on this particular south westerly, given that a cold airstream of this kind tends to stablilse to some extent following the passage of particularly large storms or clusters of storms, though showers are still quickly forming in this part of the world. I'll have to make an executive decision as regards my afternoon promenade.
Someone located in Southampton posted earlier on UKWeatherWorld that they had just experienced their first thunderstorm of 2019.

Well, up here, there is a whipping, unceasing easterly, with rain from time to time, deep grey / purple skies. And it's cold, seriously cold.
I have been bringing young plants in and out all night / mornings over the last few days or so, but so cold and unforgiving has it been today, that I have kept them inside undercover all day.
