But it is now thickening fast up there - a couple of lightning flashes in the Manchester/Peaks area in the past half hour suggest what is probably on the way as surface insolation aids cumulus growth. Glad I did my main cycling exercise yesterday, taking to the Ravensbourne Riverside path after having my annual blood check at the local cottage hospital in E Dulwich. I just love this time of the year - the bluebells, ransomes and numerous varieties of white-flowering trees and shrubs giving off that wonderful scent; the fresh vivid green of new foliage.
...and the pink of the campion in the verges, and to quote Rosetti ‘Where the cow parsley skirts the hawthorn hedge’. Yes, indeed S_A a lovely time of the year.

Just started to rain as I was planting some glads but 5 minutes later the cloud had passed and dry resumed. It makes you realise the value of mulching as the ground is damp where I've spread compost. Off to Trieste on Saturday so I'm hoping for warm weather.

It looks like your first couple of days will be pretty stormy, gradus, then Monday to Wednesday dry, before a further breakdown on Thursday.

Large pea-sized hailstones now falling here - neighbours have rushed out to gather their washing from off the line! Just waiting for the first flash of lightning.

There we go - four strikes between Bromley and Croydon, just now displayed on Lightningmaps - thunder heard from this distance.

I brought out the garden hose this afternoon, joined the bits and made it ready to use. Now it’s pouring down.

My dad used to say that the one way to ensure rain was to wash your car!

Very disappointing bank hioliday weekend weather, following the excitement of Saturday's hail and thunder showers: temperature not likely to rise much above the present 11 C, and too much cloud shielding the otherwise warm May sun's strength to encourage going out without the winter overcoat.

We're definitely paying for that Easter treat!

Much needed rain everywhere on Wednesday and Thursday, however.

Only just reaching 8° here in central Scotland, had to put the heating on! Intermittent showers.

Thundery activity really taking off now to the SW - one line (probably convergence) from Somerset into Bristol and running NE, and a mass of spherics ahead of it, breaking out in Teamsaint's and Ilex's area. We just had a heavy shower here - amazing when I think I only went out for a quick around the block to check for appraoching weather at 12 noon, and there seemed to be none; but this only demonstrates how quickly convection can kick off in the middle of a depression, where air has nowhere to go but up, once that strong May sun gets going on the wet surfaces.

Rain all morning and well into the afternoon, some of it quite heavy, and cold with it. Beginning to clear somewhat now and a brisk wind is drying surfaces. It's going to be cold at work as the heating is off now and the building is draughty and will have been absorbing the damp.

I've just counted 32 lightning flashes as having occurred in a storm that passed between St Albans and Hertford less than an hour ago. That seems to represent the peak in thunder activity on this particular south westerly, given that a cold airstream of this kind tends to stablilse to some extent following the passage of particularly large storms or clusters of storms, though showers are still quickly forming in this part of the world. I'll have to make an executive decision as regards my afternoon promenade.

Someone located in Southampton posted earlier on UKWeatherWorld that they had just experienced their first thunderstorm of 2019.

Well, up here, there is a whipping, unceasing easterly, with rain from time to time, deep grey / purple skies. And it's cold, seriously cold.
I have been bringing young plants in and out all night / mornings over the last few days or so, but so cold and unforgiving has it been today, that I have kept them inside undercover all day.

Slightly warmer this morning, after downpours yesterday which were welcomed by my gardening friends.

My avocado plants are gradually reaching their summer locations by the back door.

Quite strong gusts yesterday down hereabouts, after the rain! I think it maybe a bit calmer although will haversin later.

Very threatening sky looming up to the west here - lightning just registered on the M25, just west of Heathrow, and several strikes over Southend-on-Sea.
