A snowscene from Ludlow was shown on the lunchtime news forecast, which must have shocked its residents when they woke up. Anyway, once today is out of the way things should start improving from the east, with temperatures gradually lifting to slightly above April norms. The Atlantic jetstream transfers to the Mediterranean latitudes, and with a huge (or HUGE, as the BBC's deputy political editor would tell us while waving his hands meaninglessly outside Parliament) anticyclone parking itself well to the north, meaning winds will be coming to us from far to the east for as long as I can see into the future. But don't worry - this isn't the cold direction it would have been last month!

Bitter east winds up here. Dry, but - blimey! - you don't want to spend much time out of doors. Snow still on tops. If it tries to rain at all in the next 48 hrs here, it will be nasty - maybe snow, maybe even freezing.
BBC forecasts full of glib reassurances. Maybe they'd like to be up here on the very south-western edge of the Pennine spine, and re-tell those glibnesses to the locals and see what happens..............!!

Pleasant if a bit cool in Norwich today where I was on business, but lots of the wet stuff here. We have had soggy snow flurries recently, and its coldwetnorrible now, with what sounds like hail, er hailing.

Lots of high cloud here from the frontal system straddling the SW veiling the sun today, but with enough holes in it to allow the resulting sunshine to raise the temperatures to reasonable levels. Unfortunately tomorrow looks likely to be rather dull and cool once more, with low cloud streaming in off the cold North Sea - so the further north and west you are the better, which makes a change!
That sort of weather seems likely to return on Monday to last the week. Inj the meantime, Sunday looks warmer once more, but with a possibility of thundery showers developing in the SE, which I would forsee as being high-based, which for me are the most interesting forms of weather we experience. So, on the lookout for high level cumulus-like tufts gathering into clumps and building upwards.
