Yes - so are we in this bit of the Pennines. Perfect gardening weather -
Potatoes went in the other day and cut the grass cut yesterday. About to put the washing out on the line. Should be dry by lunchtime.

Wall to wall sunshine, a bit of a breeze(warm for a change) and very mild. I shall have to do a watering stint as pots have dried out and rain isn't imminent. The pollen count has leapt to High just about overnight, so I'll need to watch out for that.

Thanks to you all for your most kindly wishes.

Yes, I have a lovely black eye now - plenty of natural mascara! The knee is now improved to the point of being able to walk slowly, a nice bruise appearing on the inside; one of the problems however is that accidents of this kind have to be avoided if at all possible, as they exacerbate other naturally occurring age-related conditions, such as a shoulder injury that never completely healed up following dislocation 12 years ago, and accentuated painful joints in the left hand associated with osteoarthritis making gripping painful - I put out that hand to try and stop my face hitting the road. I consider myself fortunately resilient, having experienced a number of serious accidents throughout my life with no ostensible after-effects, shock etc. My dad's pick-yourself-up, dust-yourself-down, and start all over again attitude, typical of his generation, seems to have served me well!

The Met Office have only just now issued a weather warning for showers tomorrow across the Midlands and SE - something not previously predicted - and so with a cold front approaching from the north shifting winds ahead of it coming slap up against warm southerly winds they must be anticipating development of a convergence line. That can often mean thunderstorms, though this was not given mention. Keep a watch out for cumulus clouds appearing late morning and then building up.

            .

... first time this year double-doors from dining room open on to garden. Masonry bees hard at work destroying the pointing on neighbour's wall. Bird life that was irritatingly noisy earlier on (lots of tiresome bicycle-pump birds) currently dormant. Replaced by irritatingly noisy drilling of builders in street behind the house. Tree blossom glorious. Conscious that there is weeding that needs to be done...

            .

Coincidentally, tree surgeons have been at work next door with chain saws on one of the sycamores, then grinding up the consequences through a very noisy petrol-driven shredding machine. I did think of telling them that this is NOT the time of year such work should be undertaken, especially when the new shoots are emerging, but that it should be done during the time of dormancy, when damage to the tree is minimised. Wel, that's what we were told on a course I once attended.

Another consideration(some legal force?) is the ban on such work between Feb and August to avoid disturbance to breeding birds. I gather the 'modern' way for developers to get round this is to swathe the offending trees and hedges with netting to prevent birds nesting; double problem for the birds - loss of habitat and loss of life if caught in the netting. https://www.theguardian.com/environm...-birds-nesting

So , that was what the netting I saw last year around a Rowan tree locally was all about.

Not just mild today but actually warm, such that clothing had to be changed for walking into town, and the thermometer outside the back door registered some silly figures.

Up to 18.5 degs celsius here this afternoon - shame it clouded up, as the sun had been warm enough earlier for sunbathing purposes. I'm afraid tomorrow, and much of next week, will come as rather a shock after this little treat we've been enjoying.

Blimey! Well, up here it's been dreech, distinct edge in the breeze, and now rain!

It’s overcast today down here. We’ve been spoilt for the last few days.

Walking by the Itchen just now, the wind was very chilly and although the dog did swim two or three times I was not at all tempted to jump in after her...

Edit: I should have written "viral" of course.
