Daughter said that a lot of Waterloo southbound services were cancelled or delayed.

Quie a few mature trees down across London today - one miracle escape when a Taxi being driven down Hollywood Road Avenue received a plank of wood through the back window, narrowly missing his passenger!

Looks like a repeat performance is lined up for Wednesday.

Still very blustery today. Hope the sun stays out.

Best to make the most of today (if that's not too late) - tomorrow risks very strong damaging gales as the cold front crosses during the day (you'll know all about it!), and Wednesday a repeat of yesterday's gale-force westerlies. With more blows (and rain) on Thursday and Saturday, it looks like the earliest for signs of a clearance and ridge building from the SW is Sunday.

The council men came and cleared the tree debris this morning - somebody must've complained abut the pavement being blocked. A lovely day today, on the coolish side.

It has been lovely, sunny and not too blowy with people out pruning and tidying. Nice enough to sit outside for short periods.

Currently the rain backed by a strong wind beating against the windows. Not a good day in the Duchy.

Somehow I don’t think I’ll be having a saunter down town today. I don’t think so somehow.

That would have been a bad idea here yesterday - unless I suppose one was getting into the spirit of the penitential season...A very strong and gusty cold wind was throwing grit and debris around and going straight through clothing. A day for taking care with doors, and limiting outside exposure.
Today is winding up significantly on the wind front again(weather warnings as well as what one can see out the window) and we are promised rain to go with it later - oh joy.

Very intense rain and winds for 10 minutes, visibility reduced to a couple of hundred metres, as the cold front/line squall passed through at 1.45, with just enough of a pre-warning for our gardener to leap into his van without getting soaked and sit this one out. The temperature fell from 9 C to 6 C in 5 minutes. The rain belt is turning out to be wider than usual for this type of situation, as a showery-type shortwave trough impinging from the NW has joined up with it, estending the low cloud base and moderate rain area - still no sign of the usual clearance to the west.

So now we have tonight and tomorrow to look forward to.

... is 'our gardener' Serial using the Royal 'We', or is it just a way of referring to his family's devoted retainer?

                        [ ... and what's the difference between a "pre-warning" and a "warning"?? : pedantic whistle:

He's employed by the entire block, in which I am but one humble resident, vints - 14 flats in all.

My kinds of warnings always come too late - hence the distinction (I think).

We had a horrid weather day yesterday, or part of it. Seemed to be brighter later.

Windy and muddy again, but we saw the fox on the Common, slinking past the Hawthorns fence with brush held low. Luckily dog was being patient on the other side of the building.
