It's here now - mizzle prevails!

      ... and beyond -

'we will have to wait another month before a return to the sunshine of recent days. The Met Office predicted two weeks of showers across England, interspersed with a few sunny bursts, and that it would be mid-May before the weather turns more summery. Next week “looks very similar to this week”, Greg Dewhurst, a Met Office meteorologist, said. He added: “We will be back in drier and brighter weather by the middle of May. That’s when it could look better.” Temperatures by then are set to be above the average of about 16 to 17C.'

I have just been given a list of jobs to do by my lovely if never capable of being relaxed neighbour including addressing ivy at the fence in three places and agreeing to putting pressure on the bloke above us to reduce the height of his conifers by, quote, "seven feet, the height of a man". While not wholly opposed, I observed that neither she nor I had got around to mowing our lawns yet. Meanwhile, I have a long note in the letterbox from my mother. She wants to "discuss curtains". Retirement is either having to run the country in the absence of political leadership or being in a marriage when one is not. I'm not sure if I want it to be sunshine or to pour down with rain. Either way, it will involve "relationships" and hard work.

(Having said as much, I have to accept I don't have suburban values. They - and I very much include both my parents in this - want a garden to be like a light room in a house and they incessantly sweep whereas I am instinctively against tree cutting and dream that one day the plants and the animals will take over and erase all brick and concrete including our own.)

I understand that tourism is now on offer to Chernobyl, where one can see the abovementioned recycling process well underway, and apparently without having to dress like an official tourist investigating Salisbury, as long as one does not loiter too long about the place, but whether within tent or not I couldn't say.

I would thoroughly recommend viewing any decent documentary on the New Safe Confinement around the sarcophagus.

Engineering doesn't always float my boat but it is a marvel.

Completion is now expected next month - a bit later than anticipated given the extreme radiation levels.

Meanwhile, a bit of old paving stone has been removed in this country on a day which is neither too hot nor too cold.

We had fine rain down here. Not sure about today.

Lightning flash not far from Eastbourne a short while ago, Bbm. A day of heavy April showers, then, and quite cool and breezy, but at least a fresh, clear atmosphere, at Atlantic polar air sweeps all pollution away.

Yes, at least there was that! I think we could have a thunderstorm today

Boisterous, deffo cold and rising N / NW winds oop 'ere. A sight more than the 'breeze' being talked of by BBC, and more northerly than SW !!

OMG! What a dismal day it's going to be! The weekend as well.

7° with a chilly east wind. Gloves needed on short bike trip to the newsagent's.

It's almost stopped raining, and somehow the sun is managing to penetrate through about five layers of cloud right now; unfortunately a flat tyre means I'll have to walk the mile to the nearest shops, so either way it's likely to be raining again before I get home!

Improved here but more rain expected this afternoon. The forecast for tomorrow looking dry with some sun - hope so as it is Trevithick Day.
