Well, a bit of rain wouldn't go amiss now in these parts, everything is getting very dusty! The past few days have been quite a rollercoaster temperature-wise, depending on direction of the wind and whether the sun has managed to get through. Layers have been very much the order of the day; Wednesday was glorious and jackets and jumpers were shed during the weekly volunteer garden session, but Thursday was distinctly chilly until the sun finally got through mid-afternoon.

Similar weather anticipated to last until next weekend, so farmers can't complain this year about lacking the conditions optimal for seed setting. Make the most of it, since a breakdown is expected by next weekend. It does look likely from the present viewpoint to be a relatively gentle breakdown, with day and night time temperatures climbing during this week and remaining relatively high beyond that point.

I'll just be glad to see the back of the vicious easterly wind that has blighted most of the past week. The news that one day, Wednesday I think, was forecast to be the warmest day of the year so far produced a hollow laugh here as the god-awful wind, laughably described as a 'moderate breeze' on BBC forecasts, sent temperatures plummeting and winter coat and woolly hat were the order of the day. That wind has only now slightly eased off and should be gone by tomorrow.

We could certainly do with the rain in these parts.

Sorry to hear that, Petrushka. Here in Cheshire it's been lovely for a week or more and the easterly breeze has been just gentle. I keep expecting it to change and I'm sure there will be a wet spell before May. After all the rain we had earlier in the year this dry spell is too good to be true.

... a truly exhilarating spring of late - yesterday my wife and I were in different parts of town doing different things : she in Balham, and I in Borough Market and Hyde Park - but when we met back in Shepherd's Bush both agreed there had seldom been a day more productive of weather-induced joy : the blossom, buds on the trees, leaves suddenly in evidence, insect and bird life thrumming away ( out of discretion (and because the light was against me) I didn't photograph the herons copulating on their nest in the tree on the island in the Serpentine... ). No, something really special

Same here - but I've lived here on the Suffolk coast for a long time and know what to expect in the way of weather at this time of year. All of 10°C at the moment.
