Mmm, had to look that one up...

A relatively short-lived wave formation, usually on the top surface of the cloud, in the form of curls or breaking waves (Kelvin-Helmholtz waves).

    Nice!

      Nice!
That formation sometimes presages thunder. Here this week, and for the forseeable future, it looks likely to remain slightly on the cool side with rain at times. There was a time when I would have complained about being deprived of a "proper summer"; these days I tend to feel relieved!

Loud distant boom of thunder here a short while ago, according to "upstairs" - which I missed, my head buried deep in personal finances . We've just caught a very heavy shower from the tail end of that storm, which passed a few miles to the west.

It's been going that way here - yesterday was horrid and today looks as if it will be worse as the wind is not only northerly but also very strong, so temps will struggle to get into double figures - not the lead-up to June one wants or expects! There might be less rain today, but that's as far as the "good news" goes. Here's hoping the improvement forecast for the weekend becomes reality.

              Quite pleasant here...

...dry (currently at least!), bright and breezy and a comfortable temperature.

The heavy rain of the past few days has given way to brighter weather but with a very strong wind.

The very heavy rain in these parts last week and this has produced yet another slug problem indoors. We usually get one a year, sometimes none at all but the wet conditions so far have made it a bonanza year for them. Pellets have proved ineffective. Has anyone got a proven method for visibly removing them from indoors? The slimy trails are ruining the carpet!

I'm currently sitting in a train stuck at Blakedown in the West Midlands owing to a tree which has fallen onto the line. It's been windy over the last few days, so I suspect due to that. (That'll teach me for trying to avoid Birmingham New Street dungeon and cross- country sardine tins, I suppose!)

New Street is now a lot better than it was years ago - but on the whole Birmingham is generally somewhere to steer clear of if possible...

The platforms are still as awful as they always have been, and there's always a crush to get on those cross-country trains, which have never been long enough. I was there last Friday to catch a train to Oxford and after that experience vowed to avoid the station and the trains at all costs! My ticket from Evesham to Wolverhampton allows me to travel via Worcester Foregate Street and Smethwick Galton Bridge instead of the more conventional Worcestershire Parkway and Birmingham dungeon.
(I suppose this should be in the grumble thread!)

We got your usual weather here! Absolute shocker, not least for the strength of the wind which not only kept the temp right down but also caused a lot of damage to plants grown overexuberant on all the preceding rain and mild weather. Dry today, still too much(and northerly) wind, but at least that'll help to dry things out, and there might be a few sightings of the sun. Supposed to be warm and sunny tomorrow - let's hope so.

Stunningly lovely day today in London - such a contrast with yesterday! - hot in the almost uninterrupted sunshine, but enough of a cooling northerly to encourage a longish cycle ride this afternoon of about 9 1/2 miles taking in Herne Hill, Brixton town centre, Stockwell, Clapham town centre, then a detour back via the S Circular, Tulse Hill, West Norwood, W Dulwich, and home. Brockwell Park was heaving with visitors - some event being currently on there, as was Brixton (as ever!) - and this and numerous other delays cut the trip short of including Streatham Common, always at its best at this time of the year. Today's 20C max looks likely to be the warmest here for some time to come, with winds primarily remaining in the NW quadrant - as is often the case in early June, but the difference this year is that this seems to have been a predominant pattern for much of the year so far.

What a difference a day makes! Breached 20 degrees this afternoon, bit of a contrast to the previous two days' struggles to get into double figures at times. Got very warm mowing the grass and was glad when I'd finished. My young veg plants have been brought out into the open and are looking a bit shell shocked - they have had to be cooped up in a mini growhouse for much of the last 8- 10 days to prevent being washed and/or blown away, quite apart from the temperatures being just too low for the likes of tomatoes, courgettes and climbing beans. They'll have to be planted out soon though, so I'll need to look at what protection I can give them, as the forecast suggests the nights and the breeze could still be chilly.
