I hesitate to suggest this...
But, could it be a sign of a steamy French homelife?
Distinctly chilly homelife, I fear. Heating has just come on with temperature at 12C.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
Here's a hand-wavy exaplanation (courtesy of Dr Magnus Pike) that might well be wrong
It needs to be below the Dew Point to condense to liquid water and become visible. The Dew Point occurs when the air is saturated and can't hold any more water (as a gas), it depends on relative humidity and temperature...)
App says dewpoint is currently -2, temperature -1 (feels like -3). We are very high here, close to the highest point of the city.

We managed a 1.5C this afternoon before the morning's fog began to re-descend. Surprisingly it dodn't feel that cold when I went out to the shops; however, it was windless and I was well wrapped up! Having expected a slight warm-up next week it now looks as if we will continue being trapped in cold air until Thursday, when Atlantic air is expected to break through.
Aye, away to Crewe. Not sure what the state of the place which I still call the Memorial Ground is like just now.

Reports have been coming in from the Hampshire/Dorset area describing rain falling at well below zero Celsius, which while comparatively rare in this country (commoner in the US) will lead to the most dangerous conditions on roads. Expect accident reports on the news.
Heavy overnight snow here in Staffordshire. It feels less cold and rain is forecast. Tricky underfoot conditions this .morning.
Yes, the slick of rain over the ice which had yet to melt was not something I could risk. An hour ago I did manage to get down the garden to empty the compost caddy, as the ice on the patio had finally melted. The buckets and waterbutts contained impressive quantities of ice - well over an inch - that will take a while to melt even though the temperature has been above(just!) freezing for much of the day and will continue so into and through tomorrow. The two birdbaths(bin lids on large pots) have been emptied - the ice slabs made a satisfying crash as I tipped them out (keeping my feet well out of the way!) - and the continuing rain will refill them overnight.
Good Heavens! The word 'CUMBRIA' was actually said ON AIR this a.m. So we DO exist after all. !!!Wow!!!
Someone on a snow - related thread on another forum I frequent complained about the use of the word Cumbria in news reports and suggested that Cumbria no longer exists...
... I presume they were implying that "Cumbria" residents now either identify as residents of Cumberland or Westmorland and Furness
