I was heading to a lunchtime recital in a church that time and will be tomorrow as well so would rather not get soaked beforehand.
Well it's been pretty wet so far, not surprisingly given the prognosis! One big rumble of thunder was heard around 3.30 this afternoon - all the way from Guildford, so it must have been a real whopper down there; the centre of the low was literally bang overhead at the time - it is now slowly retreating east, bringing lots of clag and muggy humidity as it does, but not yet the very strong gales that have been affecting Cornwall and Devon for a few hours.

One more set of fronts is due to come, next Tuesday, following which the Azores high makes tentative moves in our direction, which should push temperatures back up to where they should be at this time of year, Thursday hopefully promising real heat for the SE.

Light rain off and on throughout the day until about an hour ago when it started to chuck it down, so the road was running and my yard filled up yet again with the overflow from neighbours' waterbutts on each side... Wind has been noticeable by its absence but is forecast to appear overnight and tomorrow - but not at the level experienced by the West Country.

I think that's probably right - the isobars at the rear of the low are predicted to open out, relieving the pressure.

Some amazing convection now taking place as I write: the sun has broken through, and cumulus clouds can be seen rapidly building up into cumulonimbus as if one were watching speeded up film - the cloud top outlines literally changing shape second by second. This is commonly witnessed in the tropics - I only recall ever seeing it twice before in this country - on a hot evening during the blazing summer of 1976 watching copper-edged clouds piling up against a sunset backdrop, and during one of my drives to this address prior to moving in from a major storm in August 2004 that left several people dead from lightning strikes across N London.

It's been raining heavily for most of the day but what's really noticeable is the low temperature 12 degrees 'feels like 9'.

This is what you'd expect in mid-February/early March and I've known December days to be at this level. Beyond belief dreadful.

Yup. feels like 9C here too, made by nasty NE wind. Autumn already.

Are they still having a killer heatwave and drought in Spain? Logic suggests there should be somewhere in between where it's just right: Nantes, St. Nazaire, perhaps?

Nice sunny morning here today - currently 15°C with a nice breeze. 17°C predicted.

Had to dig out my sunglasses and blow the cobwebs off them here before going out to neighbourhood coffee morning!

For the second morning in a row, I was up and out for a walk to enjoy the quiet calm shortly before sunrise. A little very light rain on both occasions, though rather less windy, today. However, unlike yesterday, I was not early enough to catch the local badgers foraging in the grass down below their wooded hilltop set. Yesterday, one only noticed me walking in its direction a few metres before I would have passed by it. When it did notice me, it headed off up the path towards its set, fairly nonchalantly, occasionally stopping to look back to check on my whereabouts. Never seen a badger in the back garden, though. Just the occasional foxes (three cubs raised beneath my garden shed a few years ago).

Sounds nice. I've only seen a badger once, late at night by some trees along the bus lane. Seen foxes several times though.

Very much a mixed bag today, showery spells but sunny for the past half hour.

It's felt particularly chilly indoors today at around 18 degrees and borderline for the heating to go on. I've resisted so far but it's a close run thing.

The house temperature has held up well, although the "cold room"(downstairs bathroom) got down to 16 last night, but socks and longsleeves (plus other clothes of course...)have mostly sufficed in the evening in the living room. Going out late morning I did wish I had a lined summer weight jacket though - the wind was "fresh". Sun finally happened in the afternoon, which together with the wind took off much of the excess moisture and helped to reduce the chill factor somewhat.

                            Chilly - 18°C...

Much light rain and drizzle today, and muggy in the extreme... as expected, but it means having to walk the mile to the shop for my groceries this afternoon rather than cycling. This trailing front probably won't move on until this evening, but tomorrow promises better, and it could even get quite warm on Thursday... for one day!

Really nice all day here, sunny intervals, light WNW breeze, 19°C...

                                ...so far, anyway.
