Just about time to get my main week's groceries before this well-announced cold front swings in later this afternoon!

(Incidentally, has anyone else noticed supermarket shelves becoming rather sparse of late, and increasingly devoid of choice - like, no broccoli for 4 weeks now?).

I noticed the choice of pickles and relishes has declined in Sainsbury's. I have been unable to buy the jalapeno relish I like.

Classic textbook weather sequence for the approaching warm front:

6am - sky a quarter covered with advancing cirrostratus sheet from the west

12noon - sky almost completely covered by cirrostratus, thickening into pale grey altostratus from the west. Cumulus below flattening out into stratocumulus. Sun as if seen through frosted glass, surrounded by halo. Wind beginning to pick up. 16 degs. C.

4pm - total sky cover, thick altostratus. Remaining stratocumulus patches fragmenting. 15 degs. C.

4.20pm - moderate rain beginning to fall from now amorphous nimbostratus (lowered altostratus), fragmentary skud cloud (stratus fractus) appearing and rapidly increasing in the rain-saturated air. Very dark-looking to the west. 13 degs. C.

This will probably intensify for a couple of hours before turning more drizzly as the air feels increasingly muggy, slight temperature rise, awaiting the arrival of the cold front, possibly after dark, which will be marked by moderate to heavy rain accompanied by fresh to strong gusts, lasting maybe an hour. The clouds should break up mid-evening, following the cold front passage, at which point the south-westerly veers westerly.

Supplies to the supermarkets in town have been increasingly erratic of late. There has been a trend for many months of some things being long term out of stock but now, in addition, there are widespread gaps of random items - but not necessarily the same across all shops. The shops are struggling sometimes with their stock control on fresh food as folk shop around for the missing items on their list (the siting of supermarkets in my home town - 3 on one site at one edge and 3 others in the town centre makes it very easy to do that without needing to move the car or walk far) leaving too much stock to be cleared through quickly. A bonus for those such as myself who shop little and often so are often able to benefit from reduced prices. The rundown of stock that happens before the main delivery day in Aldi and Lidl has been more pronounced in recent weeks I've noticed - but I keep forgetting to make a note of which are their delivery days so I can reduce chances of not being able to get what I need!

Have had and continue to have loads of rain today. I guess we need it though.

I've miscalculated on the rain distribution and clearance time - it rained here continuously, light to moderately in intensity, from 4.15 to about 8pm, transitioning to fine drizzle, which is still falling in muggy air as I write. The cold front is dragging its heels, which I hadn't expected.

Rain started here about 6pm, not as heavy as expected but the wind mad it seem so. Odd feeling to have the temperature rising through the evening and early part of the night to end up milder that it had been during the day. Sun is well up this morning and set to stay out most of the day so although the wind will knock the temperature back somewhat it should be a pleasant day. Worth putting the washing out while I'm at work this morning.

I don't understand how (according to the app) I've already exported some (solar) power when the battery is still only at 11% and it should take what's being generated first!
But a glorious sunny day in the offing so it should be up to 100% ere long.

Our beloved cat and two puppies, aged 20 months and six months, and our 19 year old cat, have gone for a holiday. We should’ve gone away, but decided to way lay it for another, bit our beloved pets still have theirs. My goodness it’s so strange without them!!!

Should be a good day today. Out & about, maybe?!?!? MrsBBM is deciding!

Lots of traffic earlier - probably down to people having to revert to the car today due to the rail strike. Should really have gone out on what has been a beautiful quite warm afternoon - instead of which I had my flu jab at 2.10, returned home, put on a mixtape of ambient electronica... and fell asleep! Now listening to J to Z. Tomorrow could well be wet and rather cold for the London Marathon.

Not ideal weather. Certainly don’t want it too hot though.

Dreary rain down here. Going to a local garden centre today.

Glorious sunrise this morning, all flaming gold and orange, more like a sunset. That might explain why the forecast has been downgraded a little from wall to wall sunshine to a more muted version. Should be dry though the NW breeze will keep it a bit cooler than would otherwise be the case.
Unfortunately opportunities to enjoy being outside will be somewhat limited by the need to tidy the loft and protect what's stored up there as builders start roof renovation work on Monday. Even if it there isn't rain to worry about the amount of mess dropping down will be considerable.

                                Dry, fiercely cold, clear.
