A lovely September day today - warm breeze, sunshine and blue sky, staying mild after the sun went down. Walking home from choir practice an hour ago was very pleasant for the perfume of not only eleagnus which flowers at this time of year anyway, but also Mexican orange (choisya) which has been prompted into abundant late bloom by the rain. Both were heightened by the combination of warmth and the humid air. I see from the forecast for the next two or three days that although the daytime temps are going down again the night temps are not going to be as low as recently -- so only a few degrees of difference between the two.

Almost perfect weather here again today. Plenty of sunshine, reasonable temperatures, and a stunning start to the day with a gentle mantle of mist.
Our country at its loveliest, I would say.

Something else I've not noticed before is the re-flowering of buddleia. Our self-seeded bush on the SW corner of one of the blocks was badly damaged by being hemmed in when scaffolding went up for two months for our external re-decorations, after which the gardener saw no alternative but to chop it right back - something he would normally do in winter. But the plant has re-grown with fantastic vigour, and is now sporting new blooms.

IMHO opinion, the energy crisis will end the moment the engineers harness the growing power of those things…….

Buddleias have considerable capacity for lengthy flowering but as most folk don't bother to deadhead them, or just do it once, they don't realise that. The spikes become shorter, but keep the late insects happy none the less and provide additional colour in the autumn garden. Deadheading also reduces the selfseeding.

What little rain there had been here was well on its way by 12 noon, with clear gaps in the low stratocumulus indicating that yesterday's front has moved on eastwards and cleared Kent. The cloud is now well broken and we have warm sunshine, which was not forecast. I don't see any sign whatsoever of high cloud sheets coming up from the south to indicate the frontal system bending back westwards, thus it looks as if the professionals have miscalculated today.

Hit and miss showers, by the looks of it, driven on a fresh NW wind which is going to be around until Wednesday. Predictions of rain and strong winds on Friday.

Noticeably cooler today. I've already capitulated and had the heating on for a while this afternoon. Afraid that I won't compromise where heating is concerned as there are too many health problems associated with cold homes and I don't want any of those! I was reading the other day how easy it is to get hypothermia without being aware of it.
