To save precious Clobovate which I get on my free prescription I've semi-relied on Savlon Gel - which seems to have worked to some extent while the weather has been warm - but didn't last winter, so I will be back on the Clobovate now that temperatures are falling off. Dry skin seems associated with the eczema and cuts spontaneously opening up on the knuckles; but more with winter in my case, and the general advice seems to be to keep using a moisturiser.
Today it's cooler - though it was sunny when I went for my walk this morning, it's clouded over now.

We've all got so used to above average warmth during the summer that the next few days are going to come as quite a shock to many people, particularly the further north and east you happen to be in the UK.

Distinctly cool here, except for the occasional glimpse of sun, as the wind has gone round to a cold quarter again. The forecast morning rain didn't show here though, for which I'm grateful as I'd had to postpone my gardening stint to today. Might turn up in time for my walk back from choir this evening...

Cold(not "cooler") wet and windy( over 30 mph much of the afternoon) yesterday - most unpleasant. Today is also cold and windy, but dry so far and should stay that way. The 10 degree drop in temp is a bit of a shock, not least to my more tender veg which will now probably think about calling it a day, and some of the tomatoes were showing signs of blight so will need picking sooner rather than later - will need to collect up suitable trays and find space to store them.

Down to 5C last night and only up to 15.5C here this afternoon is a pretty big drop - 10C in less than half a month. At least the sun is at its most brilliant, the sky almost clear of cloud, and the wind not strong. One prediction is for an exceptionally cold winter to come. There was a time when a single hot water bottle would do for warming me up sufficiently to keep the bed warm all night, but nowadays my 76-year old body thermostat is not so dependable and I sometimes wake up feeling cold; so I am once more thinking of getting an electric blanket. I now see the cheapest from Argos are around £65 - might visit the Brixton branch on Tuesday.

I made the serious mistake of not noting that today is, or rather was, now, the annual Crystal Palace Festival day. Always an enjoyable event. Among the happy thronging crowds of mainly young and youngish people were the usual stalls serving deliciously aromatic foods, outside a pub and a restaurant just along the road a jazz trio consisting of guitar, bass and drums, none of whom looked older than 20, and a sweet-toned female balladeer with guitar and backing synth player doing early 70s-type stuff. Having already walked about 4 miles I was too fixed on getting home for Jazz Record Requests and my 4pm cuppa, and in any case was carrying neither cash nor cards. Pleasant enough day weather-wise, just a few spots of rain from a weak front skirting London to the east.
