I would imagine this to have been caused by the tyre becoming over-stretched by the high pressure I maintain for fast rides.

Set for another warm (or very warm if the sun comes out) day. The disappearing rain phenomenon continues - I sometimes wonder why they bother putting the blue drops on the symbol summary, they never materialise - just get progressively later in the day/week until they vanish altogether. The text summary rubs the pain in as it now covers the whole of East England so some places do get rain - but not the bulge that is East Anglia. I suppose it is my own fault for putting the hose back on the reel - it's the one that connects all the other lengths to the outside tap and leaving it lying around on the patio is tiresome and a trip hazard - but I now need to soak the new fruit trees - the rain we had 10 days ago has disappeared now in the heat and strong drying breezes and there's no point waiting for the free stuff which is unlikely to appear until it's too late.

As far as storms go, we had a fabulous donner und blitzen, where we are! Didn’t clear the rather sultry atmosphere this morning.

Quiet night, yes - rain, but today so far, virtually cloudless.
Erm........what the heck is going on?

Here in the sunny south west we had yesterday the highest daily rainfall for years yesterday - some 34 MM .
I was n Suffolk last week and could not believe how distressed the trees were.

Yes - I was still awake around 1.15 this morning when it came through. Some great coverage on Twitter from Brighton, showing lightning illuminating the night sky and quite clearly dramatic shelf cloud (what I mischievously call a "drop-down base"), indicating a "gust front" (sudden downdraft ahead of the rain area). Someone's posted a picture of a hole in a wall where a house near Nottingham was apparently struck by lightning! The altostratus cloud layer (grey bubble wrap cloud) is still hanging around, suggesting the possibility of another round tonight. Notwithstanding all the tyre-some problems I've been having I'm glad I managed to get most of my longer cycle trips done before the change of weather.

Spectacular but Tolkienish looking moon and cloud skyscape as I post.

Thunderstorm right overhead as I write this. Elevated stuff - the cloud base is too high for the lights of London to be reflected. Flashes every few minutes and steady heavy rain, so nothing particularly exceptional, it's just started a couple of hours earlier than it did last night. That last, very bright flash, was registered by 9 sites stretching all the way between Richmond and Bromley.

Woken up at 1-30 am by slight thunder grumbles and the clatter of rain being blown against the window. All bright and sparkly now and evidence in the garden that there was a decent quantity of free water, thank heavens. Even if the forecast of more rain to come the next couple of days comes to nothing as usual this offering will at least enable me to make a start on the soil prep in the veg beds, ready for the seed raised plants to finally go out. The shortening of the days and the lowering of the temperature makes the moisture last that little bit longer.
