Thunderstorms made landfall about a couple of hours ago, and are now processing north westwards across the West Country and into S Wales. Most of it is being reported as elevated - plenty of lightning with muffled thunder, but a few very heavy downpours too.

Some events planned for today have apparently been modified or partly cancelled due to yellow weather warnings but looking at the forecast now some of that will possibly seem like overkill - but it will be cold, and in some places probably pretty wet later in the day depending on what happens with the band of weather crossing the region. Typical Bank Holiday weather in fact, frustrating for those very many folk who were working on the actual BHs and were perhaps hoping for weekend fun.

I'm glad I kept the very tender items in yesterday - the very strong cold dry wind during the day doesn't do large tender leaves any good and added to the cold wet night would probably have sent the melons and cucumbers into a terminal decline.

Well I'm not going to grumble abut the further rain last night and this morning, heaven knows it is needed, but the cold and the wind are another matter.
Trying to motivate myself to get out in the grey cold for shopping and other errands and not succeeding. If I walk into town I can get everything done at once (assuming Morrison's have what I want) and the exercise would be good. Alternatively I could wait 40 mins or so and catch the bus which drops off outside the triumvirate of Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, which would guarantee getting all the shopping done, but the other bits would have to be done separately - perhaps tomorrow when the weather is due to be much better.
I am not a very decisive person at the best of times and this is not one of those...

Late tomorrow and into Wednesday brings quit a strong frontal system across the country from SW to NE, reaching Scotland by Weds afternoon, I estimate. After which another unseasonably deep low takes up residence to the NW of the UK, the remnants of the first tropical low of 2022 to form off the N American eastern seaboard. Which should keep winds quite strong and in the SW quadrant, with showers on and off and resulting temperatures reaching the low 20s in the SE and about 5 degs less further north and west. Once more it appears to be turning into "one of those summers", I fear.
