Drizabone here but with lighter winds a good day for spreading compost and planting onions.

Grey and cold - struggling to reach double digits by lunchtime - and the wind finding the gaps in clothing. The gardening stint was a case of heads down and keep moving. The lack of rain is getting very difficult with even established plants showing signs of stress, and any disturbance of the light soil resulting in dust clouds and gritty eyes - not helped by having two schoolgroups in tramping repeatedly over gravel courtyard and paths on their way between sessions. I will have to go in for a while tomorrow to water the bits I couldn't get round to today as without any prospect of rain they won't wait until next Wednesday. Just as well we don't go in for annual planting... well except for the cottage veg garden.

Probably! Overcast today. But be alright for the delivery of my new mobility scooter this morning!

Especially if it self-drives to your address, BBM!

We have a very milky sky today - I can't work out where all this cirrostratus/high altostratus is coming from, or what's causing it! Slightly milder than yesterday, when it only topped at 11 C - more in line with late March or early November than late April.

It's not any warmer than yesterday but doesn't feel as cold(if that makes sense?) because there is only a light breeze. The constant grey does little to improve things.

This chilly, rain-free weather is not what farmers and gardeners want. Similar a year ago.

Apart from this weekend, when a small depression with its fronts is expected to bring rain to Scotland, Wales, the Northwest and maybe North Midlands, high pressure is forecast to re-establish for at least the first half of next week, winds remaining in the same NE/NNE quadrant. With a blocking "omega"-type double high pressure belt extending from northern Scandinavia to the mid N Atlantic, low pressure will have to sneak up from the south - where for the last week it has been giving France and central Europe a lot of rain - to break the dry spell. Recent trends observers have been noting a tendency towards very dry springs, followed by wet or indifferent summers - as gurney says, not good for farming.

                          As Gurney says
                          I've a gurney too.

Likewise here. Significantly warmer outdoors than in.

Glorious day today, wall to wall sunshine (makes such a difference) and much warmer. Elevenses and lunch outside - couldn't have done that yesterday! Chilly again tomorrow apparently, which is a bit odd with a light SW wind...
