None too welcome over here at point of entry either! As yesterday a cool start getting warm quite suddenly mid morning and continuing pleasant until a short while ago when the sun getting low and increasing windspeed have made the numbers drop markedly from 17 or so to 13. The walk to choir tonight will need a coat rather than a jacket I think, with a scarf to fill the gap around the neck that such a wind always finds!

Plenty of sun, but NOT warm enough to keep the shivers off.

Yesterday, cloudless sky all day; today total cloud cover. A day is a short time in meteorology!

Very windy but also very sunny here in East Staffordshire.

They often are. There's been plenty of sunshine here today but by golly the wind knocks the shine off it - to say nothing of the large quantities of dust it's pushing around. No need to buy exfoliating products, just stand around outside... The glowing complexions aren't the result of rude good health in a rural area!

The lunchtime BBC TV weather forecaster mentioned just how dry it is right now, adding that little if any rain is on the horizon for Britain.

Three quite heavy showers have passed through here since the lunchtime forecast put heavy emphasis on staying mainly dry - the last had pea-sized hail in it, which must mean the inversion "cap" as represented by a thick layer of stratocumulus at about 6 thousand feet has been broken through. Very dark bases to the cumulus. A lot cooler than yesterday.

Cold. The sun has shown itself quite a bit but when the cloud has come it has been grey and fairly thick - nothing useful rainwise about it here though. Skies have now cleared and overnight frost and fog is possible so they say.
As I was looking out of the back bedroom window earlier I realised why we are having such problems with dust. One of the fields which is going to become a housing estate in due course has been having a lot of heavy plant earth moving as part of the preparations, and now the disturbed earth is so dry that it takes off every time one of the big vehicles moves, let alone when they start pushing earth around. As I watched a small dust storm moved across the field towards the houses, thanks to the wind direction. At lower speeds it would mostly fall out or get caught by the hedges and grass, but the gusts we've been getting lift it above that level. A more normal (as in prevailing SW) air flow would send it instead out to the fields beyond, where the deposits could find a more suitable home.

16mm of rain around here so far this month, none recently. Average for April is about 50 and, as pointed out, none in the offing. A time when our moisture retaining clay is an advantage.

Had shower yesterday, albeit, a small one. More sunshine today, but a nip in the wind.

                              Dull day here, unfortunately.

Daily Depress headline? Anyway, too far ahead.
