Lower layers of the atmosphere are currently being invaded by surface-generated cloud, stratocumulus at the moment which will have to be watched for signs of convection, indicating the increased humidity of the air as the post-frontal winds veer around to the south. A very muggy 18C that feels more like 20C. Tomorrow, surface-generated showers, by the look of it, thereafter dry and remaining on the warm side.

Edit Rain has arrived, of the mainly light variety - not "showers" as officially predicted, but proper continuous frontal rain from a thickened altostratus sheet, with winds that were gusty enough to cause difficulties in handling my umbrella! Some beefy showers are now rearing up behind this front, with reports of a thunderstorm from Cardiff in the past 20 minutes.

MrsBBM done that yesterday! We have a very good, local independent pharmacist, thankfully.

Looks like it’s going to be a similar day today, than it was yesterday.

Home Counties Estuary-speak, OG. I won't risk upsetting BBM by saying it's Cockney!

Bubblewrap stratocumulus spread right across the sky since first thing now being pierced by cumulus growth from underneath, which means the inversion cap (where the stratocumulus is) is in the process of being breached, indicating the showers predicted for this afternoon. Light south-south westerly, 17C with a muggy feel that goes with this kind of unstable situation.

I've been watching two huge frontal systems traversing the SE of the USA, both storm areas twice the size of the UK. Here's footage of some of yesterday's tornadoes, closer up that was wise in the last:

Two beautiful tornadoes touch down between Palmer, Iowa and Rutland, Iowa, the second of which we got very close to. NOT FOR BROADCAST OR RE-POSTContact meso...

More sun than expected and very welcome too as the wind remained chilly and rather too evident.
High pollen count plus physical irritation from windborne dust is proving a bit of a challenge - not least because sneezing and coughing are viewed with rather more suspicion these days.
Rain is unlikely I think; there have been plenty of threatening cloud lumps travelling across from about 2pm, plenty of blue patches on the map, and and half a dozen wet drops, but it doesn't seem to want to commit.

A misty start, but I think the sun is coming out.

Bets are now being hedged as to whether the fine spell breaks on Sunday or Monday.

Edit (16.38hrs) Contrary to my earlier expectations, it now looks as if the high to the east, currently wafting warm air our way, gets displaced to the NE next week, with a large low developing over Spain and France bringing a moderate nor'easterly, but containing a fair amount of warm air of SE European origin, so that temperatures, while lower than at present, should be slightly in the above average region for the week, and it looks at present like remaining mainly dry.

Looks likely to be the warmest day of the year thus far.

16C outside and feeling pleasantly warm in the sun. Still feeling chilly indoors, however, where the winter jumper is necessary. Occasionally breezy.
