Not a very inspirational day, today.

Dank, grey, drizzling - either state difficult to tell from the other - and cold. Yuk.

It's expected to get back up to 12 C by this coming Saturday. Still largely drab and grey, however, all the way there.

Drab and grey certainly sums it up here. The only plus side is that it is dry as yet, and no breeze - with a base temp of 2 or 3 any wind chill would not be pleasant. Always find it a bit disconcerting when it's colder at midday than at midnight...

Whiteout - fells virtually invisible. COLD 2C, damp and yukky.

Can't wait to get shot of this high. Owing to the dampness today's maximum of 3.5 C felt much colder than it actually was - more like 1 C. My glasses steamed up even before I reached the supermarket. The magenta dyed hair lady I chat to on the bus stop said she couldn't feel her finger tips, so I reassured her that they were still there.

Another high is expected to come in for the weekend, though centred further to the south so we should be on the windward side, which will help break up the associated clag. 14 C is forecast for London this Saturday!

                    The penetratingly
damp cold is a real hassle.

It seems even to penetrate into buildings: sitting here still in my coat, I've even been tempted to switch on my central heating booster, which is timed to come on automatically at 5.30pm. Normally with sunshine streaming into my south-facing windows, this serves to warm the place up during winter mornings and keep it so for afternoons. This winter has been exceptionally dull by all standards.

It is indeed. I'm not looking forward very much to my gardening stint tomorrow as in this kind of weather keeping moving only goes so far, and having to use hands, even if gloved, on cold wet things pretty soon gets uncomfortable. There won't be any sunny spots to escape to either.

All that cloud now moving away to the SE, and the visibility's improving too, with the Hampstead Heath ridge visible from here for the first time in more than a week: I think I'll take a stroll!
