Very sunny here and that causes a problem more at this time of year than it does at any other time. The angle of the low sun means that as soon as the clocks go back in the autumn, it is shining fully straight into my listening/reading room from around 10.30 am until sunset and is impossible to tolerate without drawing down the blind due to said sunshine going directly on to my books, CDs, LPs and favourite chair. It's frustrating because I can't take advantage of the free warmth coming through the window!

Sad to say, I prefer grey and cloudy right now.

Sunny, but didn't get above 8C today round here. Surprised just now to sight a huge bumblebee in the garden. Quite a few flowers still blooming - rudbeckia, cosmos, calendula, even nasturtiums.

I have a similar problem, my living room windows facing south, which means that because the mid-morning sun blots out seeing what's on my flatscreen telly I have to draw the curtains behind it. By the time the sun reaches the other window it is hidden behind the large hornbeam tree that affords cool shade during the summer and continues to bear leaves until the end of the month. That radiated heat coming through the window would otherwise warm the room up nicely once the central heating has switched off; but there's no way I can move the TV since its inside aerial has to be hung against that particular window to get any signal.

A cold on frosty morning, today. Heating on, most definitely!

It was another chilly night(including frost) but not feeling quite as cold this morning as it's currently bright sun and little wind. That will change later but I'll appreciate it for now as yesterday was not nice.
Sadly in the last 20 minutes or so the beautiful clear blue sky has been comprehensively crosshatched by contrails, now merging to form an overall haze. Grr, I fail to accept that all those flights are necessary - especially given the Chancellor and PM's approach to air travel and matters environmental.

First air frost of the autumn - sheltered pavements, cars and north-facing roofs still white, temperature 6 C - lowest since April 10, though there were then still two frosty nights to come. Shadows seem to have doubled in length from only a week ago, the sun has difficulty in penetrating the cold air, and I always think of winter as really starting around this date.

Today, UTTERLY. utterly vile. Driving winds, thick rain, temp drop from 10C at 8 a.m. to 6C now, fells disappearing into mist cloud etc.
                    They should be so lucky!

Glad I've got cricket and footie to comfort me!

Yesterday was the coldest it's been in a while here. Milder today, enough for me to remove my jacket while on my walk.

A mostly grey day and the wind feeling cold despite being generally SW. It stayed dry during daylight hours, but rain is due to move in shortly. Coupled with the greatly increased wind speeds, I think those who did their incendiary pollution yesterday rather than waiting til today will be pleased they did so.

Turning out to be quite a mild day today.

Night before last, about four in the morning, I got up for a wee constitutional to the loo. Out the kitchen window looking north it looked like there might be a wee bit Aurora action, so I stepped outside. It was pretty faint and then there was a sudden burst of light and the aurora arrived. Quite a burst of energy. Memorable. Didn't last long and I returned to bed fulkly awake, and had a sleepless couple of hours.

You lucky fella! Yes, that aurora event was subsequently mentioned on the national forecast as having been visible as far south as Norfolk.

                                a wee constitutional
                                Not a constitutional wee then?!

Pleasant day here today; max temp 12 C - just went for a cycle ride to Streatham Common: leaves now falling fast but seasonal tints yet to display. God I hope we don't have a repeat performance from the fireworks enthusiasts tonight.
