Rain, dense mists, no fells, rain - horrible.

Certainly much the same down hereabouts! The winds were quite strong!

It looks likely that we will be receiving our weather from the east for at least the first half of next week, starting tomorrow. This would usually mean very cold weather - not as cold as they're currently experiencing in Canada and the eastern US, thankfully - but this on this occasion, due to the rapid succession of stormy lows we've just experienced carrying mild Atlantic air deep into the Continent, the usual source of our coldest weather, eastern Europe, isn't as cold as it would normaly be by this point in the winter season. So, it will be a bit cold, but not that far below what we're accustomed to, except for Scotland and maybe N Ireland, which will be under a regime of cold stagnant air, with very sharp frosts.

It's been a very long time since we've heard anything from Marthe, our friend over in the States. Seeing the current weather situation over there just now, with footage of the Atlantic invading the suburbs of Boston and freezing, I think we shoud be concerned.

If you're reading this, Marthe, we hope and wish you well.

Low winter sun is excellent if you have south facing windows - fills the rooms with good warmth and energising light.

... as is our washing which is drying nicely in wind and sun. Biting edge to the wind which gave me freezing fingers hanging out multitudinous socks, undergarments etc which had piled up over the festive season which included a five-day trip to Germany over New Year.

We have just been out and about looking at cars. Very cold. 4C!

By coincidence I too assumed the air to be sufficiently low in humidity, notwithstanding the low air temperature, to dry my washing; but that turns out not to be the case, so I am going to have to iron the bedsheets after all. But at least the washing is just damp, and not dripping all over my floor! Lovely clear, clean North Sea originating air, not like the claggy low viz stuff so often imported on an easterly! I might even wrap up well later on and venture out on the Overground to that gig in Dalston I'd jotted down on my new calendar!

Well, at the mo, up here, peerless clear skies as the sun sinks, BUT a truly fierce and brutally cold easterly is whacking its way through the dales.
